Fancy getting one for the garage. Easy enough in summer to put the car away wet and leave the door cracked open for a few hours, but not so effective in winter.

- Think I want a dessicant one.
- Definitely want a perm drain tube.
- May wall mount it, but it needs to be able to run up against a wall, so nothing that needs specific cleanance at front/back.
- £notalot is good

Yep. Just pointless. He must be nearly 30 by now.

My crappy internet prevents me from finding it but there was a great de-humidifier discussion on Pistonheads with product reccomendations etc.

Edit: maybe not - the Amcor AM-DD8L I looked for seems to be discontinued. This is offered as an alternative....

I can’t get that appliances direct link to work so I’m not sure what that one is.

We’ve had a couple of dehumidifiers and for what it’s worth I found the dessicant one to seem to work better even when the ambient temperature was higher. We only stopped using it because it gave off quite a smell and with a small baby in the house at the time I wasn’t comfortable in him being around anything that was giving off a strong odour - perfect for a garage though!

We had an ecoAir one which was great for extracting water but having had a look online their only wall mountable version is a refrigerant based one.

Not quite what you’re looking for I know. When I was looking a couple of years ago it was very hard to find something specifically intended for wall mounting. They all seemed to be designed floor standing, with a slightly half-assed wall bracket thrown in.

I guess it really depends what temperature Mik thinks his garage is going to get down to during the winter. If its connected to the house and gets at least some heat transfer (i.e. doesn't drop below 5 deg C) he may not need a dessicant based one.

My garage is connected to the house but the dehumidifier will still ice up sometimes. I put it on a timeswitch so it only runs during the afternoon when it’s a touch warmer.

Don't have a thermometer in there, but it is linked to the house and the garage door is fully insulated yada yada. I'd be amazed if it drops below 8DegC - unless someone leaves the door open and drives off of course. <cough> mrs mik.

Have you considered getting a "Big Fuck Off" bag of silica gel?

If you do frequently leave the garage door open it's worth wiring it in to a relay taking a signal from a magnetic contact on the door, otherwise you'll be trying to dehumidify the whole of Scotland...
