Why do newspapers struggle so badly with the names of cars?

From Manchester evening news:

It's the MEN. They were part of GMG and are now owned by Trinity Mirror. That probably tells you all you need to know about the quality of reporting.

I've never known a newspaper to report anything in a quality manner.
