FTAO off of Insomniacs

Have any of you freaks tried a weighted blanket to help you sleep? Praise for them seems to be universal, but I just thought a review from a real person (or as close as it gets on here, anyway) would be good.

I normally don’t have trouble getting to sleep, but wake 90% of the time in the night for an hour or two. Recently, I’ve started having trouble getting to sleep (been trying for 2 hours tonight, have given up for now).

Haven't heard of weighted blankets but I could have used one at 02:00 last night when my brain was still firing on all cylinders. Yawning, exhausted physically but wired.

Pity I missed this (I try to stay off my phone no matter how late I'm awake) - we could have a nice little chat. I'm sure you'd have really appreciated a chat with Dinny_G at 2 in the morning...

I watched the Joe Rogan Podcast with Matthew Walker and I’m now getting an average 7 hours a night. I went a whole month on 2 hours a night which was when the wife gave me a kicking and said to do something more to get reasonable sleep.

Watch the podcast, read the book and then decide what you think will work.

I work through problems in my head, listen to a YouTube video called Buckethead Chill and don’t look at a tablet or phone for at least an hour before bed. I think part of it is being a bit more determine after seeing all the terrible healthy problems from a lack of sleep and part of it is just trying things I previously thought I needed to sleep.

We have a heavy blanket, probably 5 kilos or so, and I found I fell asleep well but as I’m a fidgety sleeper I woke up a lot as I shifted about. Also I end up cooking.

Dave!

I've heard good things about the weighted blankets but not used one.

Are you still running? I find that if I'm mentally exhausted but not physically exhausted, I struggle.

They’re a bit expensive, with a strong possibility of being crap. Also, I often get to warm at night, so sleep with the lightest duvet available anyway. Not sure this would help me

My missus got one recently and it has noticeably improved her sleep, she slept for 12 hours the first night she used it. It's not a heavy one and it's made of a sort of cotton jersey material so she says it's more comfortable than a duvet for her.

I need to start running again. I felt so much better in so many ways when I was. Things are complicated in my head right now. I'm not OK, but I will be.

Well this thread is going off the rails right about now, isn't it.

Reading with interest, I don't get to sleep or remain asleep very well.

Without prior knowledge of weighted blankets I have always wrapped the duvet around myself like a swiss roll or added second duvets and blankets for weight.

And found sleep impossible in warm climates where you make do with a sheet.

As a kid I would almost suffocate myself I'd wrap up so tightly, and as an adult MrsREV gets well pissed off because I have a technique where I end up in a roll with the duvet tucked under me (not a sex technique!). Even I don't know how I do it.

The finest scientists on Earth are yet to devise a sheet I can't drag off the bed every night, or a pillow I can't utterly destroy in a matter of weeks.

What sort of duvet and pillow do you have at the moment?

Thats it

Reading around these weighted blankets it sounds a little faddy, BS affiliated marketing ad-copy, but I am desperate.

And something to help me actually breath through my nose.

No idea on the duvet. Just a normal one?

With pillows I've tried everything from the cheapest shite off the local market, to very expensive memory foam. They just end up as a mishapen lump after a few weeks that won't return to anything like a pillow shape.
