No, they aren’t dead but I wish the phrase ‘race car’ was. It’s a RACING CAR and a RACING CIRCUIT.
Sadly the murcan version seems to be as infectious as the clap amongst sailors on shore leave.
If people could circle back and revert on whether you agree that would be awesome dudes.

The manufacturer of the vehicle I compete in is called "Ray Race Cars" -
http://www.rayracecar.com/
The place I (and most other racers) commonly buy spares and second hand bits is called "Race Cars Direct" -
https://racecarsdirect.com/
Aston Martin, a pretty quintessentially British brand, refers to its range of competition vehicles as "race cars" -
https://www.astonmartin.com/en/racing/race-cars
I think it's safe to say that what was once an americanism has at this point been thoroughly assimilated into the British language

A stationary racing car. Not hard.
What’s a race car called when it’s racing? A racing race car?

When Lewis Hamilton wakes up on a Monday morning he's still a racing driver

Maybe if he makes any more ‘is it because I’m black’ jokes he’ll be a race driver - otherwise he’ll always be a racing driver.

Related question for you - is it (a) a dump truck or (b) a dumper truck?
