Anyone been to Peru?

Gavster is on his world tour, he's in Mexico right now and gradually heading south, I'm going to meet him in Lima around mid Jan. We've earmarked the first few days or even as much as a week to do Lima -> Machu Picchu at a leisurely pace, what else do we need to fit in if I only have a fortnight in total ? Budget is generally quite modest (we're talking buses & hostels, not planes & twentybillionty star hotels) but we can break out the LARGE CASH DEPOSIT if there's something TOTALLY TEH ORSUMZZZ we need to do.

Yep, I was there in 2005 so a good while ago now. Only went to Lima and Cuzco myself but a lot of people were going to Arequipa, I think they're plenty to do around there. Also Nazca lines, sand surfing, floating islands at Puno on Titicaca.
If you cross the border into Bolivia you can access Isla del Sol from Copacabana. I thought that was a beautiful place. I also loved La Paz, but I'm guessing you wouldn't have time for that.

Yep - Never been but a plane/helicopter/balloon ride over the Nazca Lines would be on my list

Yep - went there as part of the trip that also took in Vietnam (don't ask!)
Lima, Cusco, Inca Trail, Nazca lines, Puno/Lake Titicaca, and of course, the Atacama desert.
All worth visiting.
We also had a few days in Arica, a bizarre moment was finding a church, designed by Eiffel, made almost entirely of iron (turns out he did loads of buildings, bridges etc in Peru and Chile)
