The part number for the exhaust manifold studs for the car he bought it for was 2trxz778b so seemed an ideal match 😎

Tbh £1500 was a decent price, I probably wouldn’t pay the £6k or so it would probably cost now.

There are always some interesting registrations in the DVLA's auctions. Probably as good a place as any to pick up a cheap 4-character plate. But looking through, the cheaper 4-character plates aren't as appealing as the less random 5 and 6 character ones. Not sure why this has such a low estimate though: https://dvlaauction.co.uk/auction/B265/AVI5 - I know it would have been an NI issued plate which are traditionally cheaper but I think it's quite fun. Might place a bid.

Here's a potentially cheap proper 4-character plate: https://dvlaauction.co.uk/auction/B265/2ADX

In terms of size, a 5-character plate where the digits are 11 is the same length as a 4-character plate if the digit isn't 1, and I think these look pretty good:

https://dvlaauction.co.uk/auction/B265/11AST

If you're going to bid, worth posting on here so we don't end up competing

I've had a look through the auction and I think I'd far rather have this than pretty much any of the 4-character plates: https://dvlaauction.co.uk/auction/B265/44POP

I'm sure it won't be cheap but it's got a repeated digit and the letters are an actual word, so it's pleasing.

Yes the auctions look like the way to go don't they. There are a number of four digit plates that go for significantly less than the base price of £5k that deals seem to charge.

I also agree that some 5 digit dateless plates are as good as a four digit. 17 RSR is in the next auction which would look great on a 911. Somehow I expect there will be some competition for that though.

The start prices on the DVLA auctions bear no resemblance to the end prices. The 11 plates will likely be £5-10k including fees. AVI5 will be a lot, £30k or more probably.

Yes, I made the mistake of thinking the start price was the guide price - I didn't think they'd go for those prices. Worth watching anyway.

In the March auction, "KUR 1D" had a start price of £500.

And sold for over £51k inc. fees.

The top ten highest sellers were at an average of nearly 30x their start prices.

On average looks to be 3-5x their start price though.

Neighbour has R26 MPH on an RS6. I obvs got the ‘MPH’ bit but it took me a few months to twig the ‘R26’ part. For that reason, I’m out.
