You see 3 legged dogs about, is he too big for that ?

He should manage ok but it’s only removing the pain. All he wants to do is walk and run so if the pain can be gone and we get a few more months so he can experience that again it’s a relative success.

The leg is coming off on Tuesday, he will now be called Captain Flash due to his missing leg.

Having a plan has made things easier. Once the kids are all in the loop and we have some answers I think I’ll go for a drive somewhere and have a bloody good cry for a bit haha

He is 7 in April. Far too young but can’t be changed.

So his leg came off on Tuesday morning and he is still in the vets. He won’t eat and he is still on Ketamene but they are getting him off it today.

It’s frustrating as he is very vocal at the minute, not barking but grumbling and I know it’s because he think he has been dumped. He isn’t a vocal dog unless he has found someone in the garden or sees something he doesn’t like. It’s a guessing game at the vets as they don’t want to release him till he has eaten. I took his own food in last night but know he won’t touch any of it. He goes 24 hours without eating each week anyway so this isn’t bothering him.

It’s taking a lot of willpower to not turn up, be that dickhead owner who knows best and take him home.

Also, it’s fucking brutal hearing him chuff and wine and having to whisper as you know if he hears you he will come out.

How anyone copes when it’s a child I don’t know, it must be unbearable.

Ah, shit Dave, I've only just caught up with this thread so didn't realise Flash was in a bad way. If it's any consolation at all (it won't be), I do alright with a missing leg It doesn't matter if you have a dog 6 weeks or 16 years, the second they're in your home, the anguish you feel when they're sick or worse is, as you say, fucking brutal.

I haven’t responded to this update as I have no idea what to say. Horrible situation.

So he had his leg removed last Tuesday. The operation went well and his wound seems to be healing better than they expected. He wouldn’t eat anything at the vets and in the end they asked us to take him home as they were a bit worried it was being there causing him some stress. There are a few hurdles though.

He doesn’t like Medication and has lost confidence in me especially but also the wife a bit. He doesn’t trust that food won’t have a pill in or some medical liquid poured over it. Even his favourite cheese gets a lot of licking and checking to be sure no pill is inside.
So he has been off his pain meds since Thursday pretty much.
Also he didn’t sleep at all with his head cone on so that had to come off, he has always hated them and the inflatable ring, t-shirt thing etc all never worked either. So we have been taking it in turns to stay awake all night just incase he decides to have a good kick or rip his stitches out.

He still won’t really eat, his normal intake would have been 6kg of food since Friday morning but he has had about 0.5kg. I’m hoping that the pain is dropping away and his appetite will come back.

Seems to be fine walking on his leg, reversing is the hardest part but he seems to be coping fine.

Hopefully once his stitches are out we can increase his walks as he is raring to get out, I think he is more depressed than anything.

Hoping for a good Christmas Day walk and to see him smiling more again.

In conclusion, dogs, cats, animals etc are all tough nuts. *

* Went for a walk with the kids on Saturday and saw a 3 legged cat, chatted to the owners as they were outside and it turns out Woody had his leg removed 7 years to the day that Flash had his done. Strange coincidence but the kids loved it.

That sounds cautiously positive. Fingers crossed he'll come round and be himself again.
