8-)

How long does it take to stop getting lost in the course and actually set a time
I've always wondered that! Watched vids like this a few times and wondered - assume its how the cones are layed down to "point" you in the right direction?

You get a map beforehand, and you can walk the course. The gates and turns are marked with small cones on their side pointing to the side you have to pass. You should be able to see them in the vid.

It all makes a lot more sense IRL !

And you have to look about 2 or 3 ahead :)

Hey Jon - I was thinking we should try and expand the OV9 presence at events, do you reckon we could con a couple of mugs from the forum into navigating for us at a Targa next year ?

That’s an excellent idea. I’m sure a few on here would be up for that. Just need to be able to know your left from right and be able to count.

For the autosolo here is the map from the last run

The cones/gates on a Targa are numbered and mostly further apart, so it’s something like ‘left of 12, then hard right, then right of 13...’, generally with lots of gesticulating and laughing.

Do you get flashbacks and start going a bit mad when you have to park at a supermarket

I thought I passed an auto solo event the other day, but it was just a drive in covid test site 😂

Got a puncture in one of the mitos rear tyres, a small sharp stone had pierced all the way through one of the tread blocks.

Popped the tyre off, stuck a plug patch in, refitted it and seems to be holding air, for the last few days anyway, and hasn’t fallen to bits. It’s a mito adventure.

Think that rear wheel bearing that was flagged up at the MOT is starting to give up the ghost. Oh well, that'll be fun...

I’ve said it before - rear bearings on a BMW are a pig of a job. Bite the bullet and pay a specialist.

I'll bite the bullet and get my brother to do it. He does industrial maintenance. I'm sure it'll be fine

(He's already been asking about the bearing dimensions so he can see if he has a puller of the right size, etc)

Small spending spree today. Spurred by having had A Good Day on Sunday, I’m treating the Compact to new tyres, braided brake hoses & grooved discs. New tyres are a real treat as I’ve only ever used cheap s/h wheels & tyres that I’ve found on eBay. Hoses are a sensible thing. Discs are just to look pretty, the events I do are really quite gentle on brakes compared to track use, or even enthusiastic road use.

Next event is Brooklands on the 25th.

Next on the shopping list is a proper cage. That’s quite an investment but it’s necessary because:

1) My wife has suggested maybe I *don't* die yet

2) I get cage envy every time I see Jon’s car

:D

Fabia has gone off for new front pads. At Steve's suggestion I went for OEM cheap (Pagid, £27) rather than race expensive (Ferodo DS3000, £178), as fade is unlikely on a short event where I'm not getting above 40mph.

And the car the garage has left on the driveway for the duration is.... a 1.4 mk1 Fabia (which the driver said also gets condensation on the inside of the windscreen, so I feel less worried about mine doing it now)

Fucking hell, the battery in the Jag is heavy. It was knackered, possibly from all the sitting around earlier this year and it was getting lots of the niggly electrical gremlins so it needed to be replaced.

I was shocked to my very core to see that ECP had a sale on which meant that a Varta Blue was only £135.

Simple pleasures but I'd forgotten how nice a fresh pair of Bosch Aerotwin wipers are. Lovely.

Stepwagon passed (covid-delayed) MOT, no issues. It's only done about 2000 miles this year, everything got serviced last year when it arrived so I think I'll just do oil & filter myself next weekend.

They are one of those items that just look far lighter than they really are

This one on top was 25kg ish and the one for the ML was bigger again I think.

It’s like they hold extra gravity.
