So the Up - apparently, like other VW's - has a light sensor on the dials. When the lights are off, or the side lights are on, the dash is only illuminated when it's bright out so on days like today, when it's dull, the dash is not backlit, so it's barely visible. When the sun comes out, it's slightly illuminated, and if the sun hits it directly, it's full brightness....
So...the dash gets brighter when the cabin is brighter? What's the point? It's getting brighter, so I can see it already without the need to be backlit Apparently the point is to remind you to put the lights on when it gets dark. I get that...but why bother with the light sensor at all?

The Camaro has a crap system like that. What’s even worse is that you have some manual control of the instrument lighting but as soon as you make it a tiny bit brighter it turns on the dome lights and puddle lights. I’ve never seen instrument lights connected to dome lights.

Dash displays have had light sensors since forever, I know my e36 has so the digital bit doesn't dazzle you at night.
I'm sure the early always on dash lighting and front drls are the reason so many idiots seem to drive around without lights, don't remember seeing it anywhere near as often in the old days because after a few feet most people realised they couldn't see their speedo

Just spent 20 minutes on my Admiral account looking for a way to cancel my car insurance renewal but not a fucking jot on about it. The cunts have to make it as painful as possible by having you call up some idiot who then always asks why you're leaving them, then sounds surprised that you've found the same insurance for £100 cheaper elsewhere
Bunch of con artists the lot of them.

I've not yet been able to log in to their app/website. Rather annoying, they seem not to be able to fix it.

Just did this myself today. AXA was no different but at least cancelled the renewal quickly and didn’t try and talk me round. Funnily I’m now at admiral for £576 less!!

I find myself always switching between AXA, Admiral and LV. If only they gave me a decent renewal so I wouldn’t have to go through this each year... I will have one car with each in a fortnight...

I've just insured with AXA for the first time, very reasonable for the Vito compared to my renewal.

Same with Hastings, I had to endure their painful and understaffed call centre to tell them not to auto renew as it was cheaper to buy the same policy again, with them, through Money Supermarket. Needless to say they adjusted the renewal to match
Told them to remove auto renew on this policy. Will be interesting to see if they actually followed my request.
On the plus side, Civic FC £237! Old cars have some benefits.
