I'm home alone for the long weekend and I'm very excited to be servicing the Mini myself. I like doing this stuff, even if it does involve lying in the street to do it.

Of course, if it was my day job, I'd bitch about having to do it. However, as the extended servicing pack has expired and it doesn't need anything major doing, it's fun. Last service was the clutch so paying a tenth of the price for filters, oil and plugs is much nicer.

Had a blast from padstein back to Newquay today before the passenger seat speed limiter started screaming.

The more miles on this car the better it gets. Not having a dog in the boot is good for later breaking but it has over the last 10 years made my driving far more fast and smooth.

Good news on the truck. The water leak is the o-ring I replaced about 4 years ago when we first got it that has deteriorated (wasn't a Nissan part just one from a general purpose Hilka kit as Nissan didn't have any in stock) and is weeping from the side of the head. Total cost of parts will be 50p and only an hours labour to find and repair it. Got away with that. Now to find a new AC compressor and get that sorted.

Went to get my new Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersports fitted yesterday and all did not go well. They'd ordered F1 Asymmetric 5's despite me writing a note for them with the correct tyre type and size info. Nevermind! I went home and ordered them online to be fitted next Thursday.

I'll have to go steady as I don't think there's much left on the shoulders before canvas will be showing.

Figured out how to remove the bonnet to remove the battery, bit of confusion when sticking a new one in, its positive earth, but thankfully still 12v.

Starter button doesn't work so you have to short the starter terminals, but I'm happy with that now I've done it a few times. A bit sparky and a bit jumpy the first few goes especially as you have to do it through the frame of the front loader and had no idea what that would do when the engine fired up.

Every tester at Perkins had their own special starting screwdriver. Normally the same size as everyone’s paint stirring screwdriver.

When the handle gets hot, you know you have a good starter and battery but a knackered engine

The one I've been using was sat on the footplate and is exactly what would be described as a paint tin opener / stirred and period correct with wooden handle

It's a cool old thing, wonder how quickly the mrs would kill me if she came home and found it parked in the garden

Sadly old tractors seem to be worth sod all, I guess there are only so many people with the space to store and use one, unlike a classic car when you can at least use it for pottering about on the weekend.

They make great lawn mowers if you fit turf tyres so they don’t damage the ground. Much nicer than a ride on mower for larger areas with tall grass as the torque from the diesel means you just set it at low revs and they need no maintenance apart from greasing.

Boring tyres refitted to the Porsche for tomorrow’s Autosolo at Kempton. You’re not allowed any kind of race / track tyre.

Seats & harnesses finished too.

The wife has recently become obsessed with winding bits of string together so she made me a German-flag-themed tag for the key.

Which colour should these be? On a black car the yellow might be quite amusing. Or orange. But I’m going with silver for now.

The most random thing I see on Twitter is Elon Musk retweeting the Tesla owners meets every now and then. It’s just a bunch of Teslas parked up with their bonnets open. Fucking weird if you ask me...
