I think you’ll find a 355 is more than a 360 !

The 360 is cheap, and usable. That’s my boxes ticked.
Of course it is, not sure what one I was thinking about.

Anything you'd do differently if you were buying another 360?

That's how long the first one has lasted!!

ETA: Just verified via the invoice as they list the mileage - 15,547 on the clock.

I expect it is one of those things that cycling from cold and general age dictate how long they last. I expect if you put 10k on it a year they'd last 40,000 miles. Still an F12 or 812 is probably a better bet (though more money)

Apparently it's still an issue on the GT4C which I didn't realise. There seems to be a few proactive fixed by 3rd parties, but they ain't cheap either. So I guess its one of those cars which absolutely needs a warranty.

The AWD system on the FF is utterly stupid. Does the Purosangue have the same system?

You want a 612 - the best looking Ferrari ever made. And it’s simple RWD.
How about not having a sig at all?

I can only assume this is a joke... :?:

I don't think I could ever buy a 612, 550 or 456 as the engines are just not in the same league as the F140 series - I would have to have something with an "Enzo" engine in it.

599 is probably the way to go if your budget does not stretch to an F12, but again I imagine many could be moneypits.

I think the Purosangue is an entirely different system.

The 612 is one of those cars which I think can look utterly amazing and utterly bland depending on the wheel and colour choice. Not sure what it is about the design. Baffling.

That's a really good question !

I didn't do it "right" by any of the normal advice you get about car buying. It was the first one I looked at, it wasn't really the colour I wanted, it was from a slightly shifty non-specialist backstreet dealer, it's done 80k miles and there's some big gaps in the service history. I didn't even drive it before buying it ! I've had to do a few jobs and there's still others on the list. The car was cheap as far as these things go - £43.5k. But all of that is me. I don't mind a bit of risk. So getting back to your question I don't think *I* would necessarily do it differently.

Advice I'd give to anyone else however....

Cars with the F1 gearbox are likely to be something like £10k cheaper than a manual. I kinda like it, it feels more like a race car ( :lol: ) but I'm not convinced it's faster or better so I can understand there being a premium on the manual. But £10k-ish ? That'll be a personal decision. Drive both if at all possible.

360s are obviously getting old now, there will be stuff that needs doing. They're not actually very complicated cars. Some parts are surprisingly cheap, some are shared with Fiat / Maserati and not bad at all. Other bits not so much. But they're fundamentally quite reliable. From what I've read the 360 was a bit of a step change on the reliability front.

Ferrari owners are very very sensitive to mileage so either pay the premium or don't. A top dollar car with impeccable history will need money to maintain that impeccable history. I've seen people insist that any car you buy will immediately need £10k of work to protect your investment. I think that's stupid. But that's the kind of mentality you'll come across.

I just had a quick look at 458 prices and they're £100k++ which is quite a different ownership proposition. I've never even been near one but I'm pretty sure if I was spending that kind of money I'd be going straight for the newer car. The 360 wouldn't get a look in.

Thanks for taking the time to type that up, very useful. I've only ever driven manual ones up to the 360 I think - I know the first iterations of the F1 auto box had a bad rep but I wasn't sure if that was snobbishness or people being over-critical of it.

The blog you linked-to is really useful. I hadn't even thought of a 430. You're right, 100K+ on a 458 is a massive difference. Seems to be a big selection of 458s from 65-85 and 360s from 55-75.

To be fair it was very much preventative - there was some drop in the oil level of what should in theory be a sealed unit and that is indicative of a PTU that will fail at some point. No idea how long it would actually go before it actually failed. Probably another 15k I would imagine.

Interestingly I think the 12k bill is actually just a service and a fix kit :!: :!: Sounds like the replacement is actually £30k.

Coniseiurs car. The wheels look good and well proportioned. The Tyre issue is very much a thing. There are literally road rainsports and track focussed Yokos or toyos available for the front of mine. A change to 16" fronts (from the staggered setup) is on the cards but would probably also require me to fit PAS too.

Yes, I’d echo SJ’s post with Ferrarichat, although I never actually engaged with people on there and just used it as a database for fixes etc. It helps massively if you have a garage locally that you can trust and has a history of servicing these (unless you’re SJ)..

There’s plenty of (mostly US) YouTubers out there who maintain these but they tend to have big garages, lots of toys and can use something else for that particular occasion if their Ferrari is a bit broken.

Finally, they like to be used frequently or they tend to show off a bit of Italian fragility. Consistent increases in mileage over the last few MOTs would be a good indicator of that.

There was a chap on Ferrarichat who was making twin cam heads for a Boxer engine or something.

He welded up the block and heads, machined stuff, was aiming for 700hp or something NA and doing an amazing job.

I read it by the pool over my honeymoon and suddenly the thread stopped and I believe never finished. Was an amazing engineer.

Very Allen Millyard about it.
