Yes, forgot to mention that "lady owner" thing, crazy that's still a thing these days, let alone in a listing like this for a V10 estate.

dinny_g wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2024 12:33 pm I love it when they say in ads for cars like that “Lady owner”. Like it’s only be used to ferry some dotty old retiree to the WI and her meals on wheels round.

The previous lady owner is a petrolhead - people who buy 8 year old M5’s and then drive them for another 8 years are petrol heads.

Her gender has nothing to do with how well it’s been kept or how hard it’s been driven
covered in parking dings and fucked alloys?

And the windscreen has got scratches all over the inside of it because she never took her rings off before cleaning it with a cloth, rather than using the fucking AC and demist functions you psychopath.

Ahem, excuse me.

Have you seen that Chris Harris has started a series on YouTube on his newly purchased M5 touring? It seems a bit of a money pit so far though!

Yes, I saw that. His logic seems to be that he buys it for 25K or so, spends 10K on it... If he owns it outright in a couple of years, that's about the same as the likely depreciation on a brand new fast touring car and then he also owns it at the end. He's said a few times recently that he's currently more into spending money on older cars than the new stuff although obviously he still loves his GT3.

I'd started keeping an eye out for these just to see where the market was as I think the new one is going to be about twice the price and twice the size of the original. So maybe an older, "project" touring is the way to go instead.

Are the M5s that bad? My M3 was reliable and no problem for daily use - and it's effectively mechanically 80% of the M5.

Is it just me, or does this look like it's been running with no brake pads and the pistons are just pushing straight on the discs ?? The other side is the same.

Can't be buying brake pads when there's carbon tat to stick on, you know.

The fitment of that bumper doesn't look 'encouraging' either.

I’d have thought the front pistons would be cover a greater width, looking at the piston housing casting. It could be that they’re really shit pads and the edges have crumbled away leaving just the centre.

That colour caliper on Porsche is usually a hybrid isn’t it? That ain’t no hybrid. Changed calipers to an incorrect one and left gts disks maybe?

Yeah but age will be playing a part now. It's a 20yo car no? Lots of brittle plastic and rubbers (I've not watched the vid so no idea what work's been done!).

People always seemed to have that opinion though - even when they were relatively new.

Hard no on all of those

This will be rough as anything, an ex-Everyman Racing driving experience car, but it's the cheapest 360 I've seen, so that's where the bottom of the market is now: asking £37k.

they can ask it, but is anyone going to pay it?

And that is precisely why I included the word "asking" rather than implying that £37k *is* the bottom ;)

I've no idea of the real value. There's several far better cars for sale in the low forties price bracket that aren't moving so yeah. This needs to be closer to £30k or broken for parts.
