Cat B Citroen SM
This got me thinking. I know it says that as a Cat B the chassis needs to be crushed and it can't go back on the road, but can it be repaired and SVA'd?
Or what's to stop someone exporting it, repairing it, and registering it in another country? Would it then be legal to drive it on UK roads as long as it's not re-registered?

The shell has to be crushed but the rest can be re-shelled.
The salvage dealer would get struck off for selling a cat a or b car on complete.

That would be an excellent parts car for Richard Kitchen (of PH/YouTube)!

Is that the case even if it's going abroad? A cynic might think that its worth an insurer writing a classic off as a Cat B if it's going to be worth more in parts. It doesnt look that bad to.my eyes

Surprised that's a Cat B, the only thing the salvage dealer could do is apply to have it recategorised

You know that's almost literally round the corner from me, right ? You bastard.
I'm rather curious about the MOT fail item "
Steering rack is likely to become detached". Having just done the rack on the Cayenne, which is identical, I can only imagine that being due to the bolts coming loose. It's not a part of the car that's susceptible to rust.
Everything else on the list is normal stuff. The front wishbones will need cutting off but I've done that job twice now so I'm quite familiar with it !

Doesn’t strike me as a very well looked after and cared for vehicle
I bet the coolant is rust brown and the oil is like tar…

Of course, it's why I posted. I know you liked the V10, and a cheap nearby mot failure is an ideal donor car.

Donor ? You want a V10 Cayenne out of this ???
I hadn’t considered it before but if I can find a Cayenne with a f**ked engine then it’s an interesting proposition !

Meh. I’ve had cars like that in the past and they ran fine. I’m quite relaxed about some stuff.
