He's agreed a sale on his taxi business so will be retiring in the next couple of weeks once the sale goes through the legal stuff.

He wants
  • High Driving position - like a taxi
  • Easy Access - like a taxi
  • Auto - like his taxi
budget of £10k and not willing to travel for the right car :roll:

Went yesterday for a look round a few garages.

BMW x1 - Not high enough (driving position)
BMW 2-series Active Tourer - Not high enough
Mercedes B Class - Not high enough
Volvo V60 - Not high enoough
Skoda Yeti - too boxy
Mini Countryman - Felt too small inside.
Nissan Juke - Doesnt like the look of the headlights on the bonnet.

Nissan Quashqai - Quite liked that. However the newest model shape are (just) out of budget and he wont spend more than £10k Auto's are rare.
Honda CR-V - Liked that also but thought it was a bit big - The one we saw was also a manual.
VW Tiguan. Liked the one we saw but was up at £15k. I have however found a DSG car in budget with decent spec and milage but its in newcastle which is too far away. Reminded him i went to London for a car and have bought a car from Newcastle also.

He "wants a car before the taxi goes but also wants to wait till the sale goes through" Not sure how both of those can be satisfied.

The search continues.....

Rav 4?
Citroen C3 Picasso? (I nearly went for one as a company car some years ago as it wafted along nicely and had loads of space. Got a Fiesta in the end instead).

Has he thought about buying a taxi?
Obvs as he won't be taxiing any more it won't be a real one, so he could put a 'fake' sticker on it to let people know.

Too big and too old in budget - also too much potential for £££ repairs.

How is the X1 not as high as a taxi or qashqai? Did he pump the front seat up to elevate it?

Had to point that feature out to the wife when we were looking on Sat despite her having owned 2 bmws now and access to mine...

I imagine hilarity will ensue if that happens, with lots of gentlemen suddenly very interested in who he's had in the back seat.

Yes as far as it would go. Think the feeling was that the dash and window were higher than he's used to. As i say - moon on a stick.

Just so I can understand from the 'horses mouth' so to speak, why does he want a 'high car'?

Easier to get in and out of I expect. Same reason my Dad (70) went for a Tiguan.

That seems really overpriced to me or is that just the going rate for used faux by fours with underpowered engines these days?

Just a thought if he decides a Yeti is too boxy (note I can't remember where you live :oops: );

This is a manual, there weren't any late autos listed, but just to give you an idea.

I think the Yeti/Golf Plus/Altea share the same driving position/seat height set up but the Yeti probably sits higher on it's suspension.

I'm not sure if one of these had been thought of;

Golf SV and newer Mercedes B Class may come into budget also (a mk1 B Class certainly will).

Retail about £20k so half that after 3 years doesnt seem expensive.
