Cheers.

I gave up on The Boys. I liked the first series, but quit after the first 3-4 episodes of S2.

Started watching Masters of the Air.

Just binge Ted Lasso because it's fundamentally a positive and uplifting series which is rare  it's a bit like Sex Education in that respect.
I lost interest - the further it got away from the main character, the duller it got. The first series was really good though.

I did enjoy the locations though - I used to work in Richmond just around the corner from where he "lived" and used to spend a fair amount of time in the park that a lot of the scenes were in.
Re: locations I had a similar familiarity, except mine stems from the fact I spent my teens and early twenties getting absolutely hammered in the same area and along the riverside

Rich B wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2024 9:10 am In terms of casting, they got Butcher and Homelanders characters absolutely spot on and the show is all the better for it (Urbans Brit accent gets funnier and funnier as it goes on - in a good way)! So I can forgive the outwardly odd decisions in actor nationality.
They definitely seem to have cast it really well - and I enjoy the accents. Urban comes across as having got his lines and accent wholly from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

I can see why Alex stopped after the first few episodes of series two; it seems quite a different show and obviously some of the major characters change from season 1. Love Gus Fring though.

Does Henry Winkler appear in it, waterskiing over The Deep as he wrestles a supe shark?

I understand that was proposed, but rejected for being not nearly ludicrous enough. :ugeek:

I’ve not been watching much recently but finished the SW Acolyte show the other day and it’s decent.

Interesting story set in a different time to the movies, great cast and some of the best fight choreography they’ve had in years.

The big sith bad is about my favourite depiction of the dark side in anything.

Would recommend

Also caught up with Lower Decks which was as lovely as ever.

You're not allowed to like The Acolyte, the SW nerds have said so.

Spoiler
Not sure this is really a spoiler, but we watched The Deep riding a whale commanding a fleet of sharks last night, so I wasn't far out - still not jumped the shark yet for me though.

In complete contradiction of the thread title stating 'recent' TV, I started watching Fresh Meat. Starting with season 1 from 2011 and it's great, very funny and I always enjoy coming-of-age shows like Sex Ed so very happy watching this.

Who Killed The KLF - Sky Docs

Covers the music and the burning of the million quid. Turns out there’s a lot of other stuff I didn’t know about them too.

Brilliant 8 parter tracing the current tensions in eastern Europe right back to the end of the first world war but with specific reference to the USSR / Russian Empire identity and the cold war
I missed this recommendation on here, but agree, superb.

Watched Midnight Mass on Netflix, been around a while I think. A bit of a slow burn and some real yawn inducing conversational scenes, but it gets going eventually and pretty good on balance.

I wasn’t sure whether to put this here or the Trump thread but as it’s TV, here it is.

A Storm Foretold – Documentary about Trump ally Roger Stone in the lead up to the 2020 election, highlighting his involvement in the “Stop the Steal” movement which ultimately resulted in the Capital being stormed. The guy’s an obvious loon and under normal circumstances, he would just be ignored but, this being America, he’s not ignored and was very influential… until he was dropped by Trump. The key parts to this documentary are the very start and the end.

The start, you see perfect example of how Trump has managed to become so popular. The film maker is Danish and within 30 seconds of meeting him, he’s decided he’s a Nazi and starts introducing him to others as the Nazi. People like Stone, Alex Jones et al just make something up, then start to believe it, then start to shout it out on hustings and in in interviews, then people believe it, then it’s a fact, then half of America believe it. If you don’t “Open your Eyes” etc. Clinton’s a rapist, Hillary’s a paedophile – wild thought to fact in a matter of days.

Then at the end, Trump has dropped him and refuses a second pardon and Stone turns to pure rage – he can’t even hide it – he’s literally gritting his teeth and basically growling in anger – it’s a little unsettling to be honest.

Proud Boys, Oath Keepers are worryingly aggressive and there’s no doubt, if Kamala wins this year, there’ll be a repeat of all this madness.

A storm foretold is a perfect description

The Umbrella Academy (Netflix)

Watched the first episode in lieu of something better, and was instantly hooked. It is very good entertainment.

7/10 donuts.

Been watching C4 bake off, never watched it before as I’d got a bit bored of the format on the beeb.

Enjoying it though, Noel Fielding stays just the right side of annoying and I even quite like Matt Lucas in it

I'm 7 series into the Blacklist (at 24 episodes per series, it's a major undertaking) and while it hasn't jumped the Shark yet, Fonzie is on the Water Ski's and cruising around in readiness.

ML not in the current one mind  And Noel has jumped the shark. The current and previous series he's clearly been irritating contestants and I see we've got another "accidentally smashing the props" episode coming up next week.
