Bridging loans were dropped in Jockland too - folks who took one out for a month or two and then found themselves in a broken chain situation as noted above.... which meant a month or two became three, four, five, and people ended up bankrupt or being unable to pay the mortgage.

A bit more progress today. Not quite as much as expected but it'll be watertight tomorrow.

We've let the youngest decide what colour to paint her room, so tomorrow I'll be applying lilac orchid to the walls. It is a small room but emptying it and getting it prepped for paint still took a good three hours.

When I fitted a carpet in my bedroom I emptied the room, it took over the full upstairs of the house! It’s amazing how much stuff you have and how little space it takes up when it’s neatly organised

Yup. We've arranged it so my wife has taken the children down to her parents. So everything has been carried/lifted/dragged across the hall and into the boys' room. Takes up fast more space there than when it was in her room.

We got a fibre connection installed yesterday. After three years of trying. I almost cried with happiness.

That's what we did with the boys (they chose "lemon punch"), and that's what I thought we'd agreed this time too, but I've been overruled.

I didn't and we ended up with one room entirely Pillar Box red...

Munchkin's room is done. Can I please reserve a special place in hell for "builders" that don't think plumb/level/even/straight are necessary requirements when building? B*stard of a job to get edges looking tidy.

Exterior finished. Very happy with it so far. I've bought some more Philips Hue for this room but fittings rather than BC lamps this time (only 50% discount on this purchase ).

Plasterer arrives on Monday to fit the insulation backed plasterboard, then plaster the ceiling and walls to make it nice. Spark returns Thursday to install light fittings and some twin sockets then Friday it gets signed off

Not entirely sure yet. I think that the side where the new wall is will have a unit built by our joiner so we have some nice storage and the TV & Sky box.

I'm sure my social coordinator/interior design specialist/fun Police/family spokesperson will inform we what she wants to do.

Is that all solar control glass? If so I'll be interested to see what it does for the light levels in the room behind it.

I've no idea TBH. Not really required to be fair. I gets the morning sun mainly. The rest of the day isn't too much of an issue as either the house or the new roof blocks the sun.

Well, our ground floor refurb is reaaaaalllllly beginning to drag now. The ktichen fitters were 2 days late in mid-May, but were still on course to finish before we went away for half term 2 weeks ago. Until, that is, they buggered off one Wed night and e-mailed to say they'd be back the week after (when we were away).

Cue effectively a week's delay before the 2nd fix could start. But as all the trades are so booked up at the moment, we're now having to be squeezed in as and when the guys can do it, which to be fair they are doing a good job of. But that has meant that the flooring can't be fitted when planned and the next available date is 12 July! That would put fitting of skirtings and architraves back to mid-July, along with final touches for the kitchen (plinths etc), and then decorating thereafter. So potentially might be finished by Aug. Having started in March

And that's assuming that the window company actually come back and finish the job - the front windows still aren't 100% finished despite being fitted in Feb. Hence we're currently witholding a good chunk of the payment for the rear ones until they actually pull their fingers out and finish both.

Thankfully the builder is happy to fit the flooring (tbh I could do it myself if needed) so hopefully we might be looking to be mostly finished by the end of this month.

Old Mira sport 9kw was starting to play up so I bought another. It gave up the ghost this evening so I set about my first shower swap. I'd got a new sport 9kw for an easy changeover and easy it was!! Happy days.

Tomorrow is last day of work on the new build . Spark is coming at 9am to fit the usb-c rapid charge twin sockets I've obtained as well as install the 2 Hue light fittings. The plaster is drying nicely and it all looks fab. Fitters are back in the afternoon to do a little snagging and that's them done.

First class from start to finish by Solarframe. Project coordinator at the office keep in regular contact telling me when each of the teams would be arriving, all turned up on time and on the right day. They've been clean, tidy, polite and done a good job.

We're very very happy with it and would recommend them. Exceeded my expectations!

Now just got to paint, floor, furnish, etc....

Joiner coming tomorrow too to fit some new doors and a sliding barn door kit in the living room.

Word of advice- go back and check the cable connections tomorrow, the big cables have a tendency to settle, which can cause a loose connection
