The landlord of our office building is tarting the place up and has contractors freshening up the exterior of the building. Today they're spray painting the intake covers for the air conditioning, without turning the aircon off so now everyone's as high as a kite/has a headache/can't see through their burning eyes/all of the above.

Particularly stupid if the vents have the standard "do not smoke in front of these vents" signs you often see.

Of course the same people that were complaining about the smell are now complaining that it's too hot because the air con is switched off.

I've had to live with broken a/c in my office for the last 2 months during the hottest summer since the early 70s so I have no sympathy!
