Seat Ibiza review

Had one as a hire car in Menorca.

Gutless. Completely lifeless steering. I mean, run-over-an-actual-policeman-and-not-notice-lifeless. Gutless. Air con wasn't up to the job of bringing down the cabin temperature unless the blower was on full. Gutless. Full of scratchy plastics. Gutless. Gearbox was horrible to use. Very difficult to distinguish between R,1 and 3. Did I mention it was gutless? Media interface was very slow to respond to inputs.

Positives?

Err, good economy and standard CarPlay and Android Auto, the later of which was used extensively. Oh, and a surprising amount of room in the front for a car in this segment.

Look, I get that not all cars need to be sold with a V8 under the bonnet, but seriously, what's the point in a car so gutless that it slows down going up even the mildest inclines, and shifting down through the gears doesn't abate the retardation until you hit 2nd with your foot welded to the floor at 40mph. We need to start stipulating minimum safe performance levels for cars on sale (ditto with HGVs actually..)

There's a subset of cars that only seem to exist to live as shit hire cars. For a start they seem to have 500cc max engines.

Well, looking at the Seat website I can only conclude it was the 1 litre triple sans turbo. so 75bhp and just 70lb/ft. 70! When you're trying to pull along 2 adults, a bit of luggage and about 1200kg of car that just isn't safe.

Our Cupra/Bocanegra was plenty quick enough if that helps.

The Holden Commodore SSV I hired seemed alright, power wise.

What’s that got to do with Seat Ibiza’s?

“Hello, Enterprise. Yeah, i need a car; it should be a 500bhp two seater (that seats seven plus bags), does 500mpg, has a 5 star NCAP, super comfortable (except when I find a good road and want it like an F1 car). All for €15 a day please... hello? Enterprise?” 😂

Tl;dr: don’t hire the cheapest car...

And that's the point. I didn't. I actually selected (and pre-paid for) 'Ford Focus or equivalent' (compact class), but they 'accidentally' gave me a car from the 'economy' class. Complaint logged. Free upgrade received for my next hire.

As for the rest, Ian, yes you 'tl:dr' even all of my opening post did you? :)

When you walked to the car park and noticed the ibiza wasnt a focus (Or more likely a Leon) you should have gone back to the desk..?
