I've been noticing a new pattern in fields recently
Anyone know what this is all about?

Taking the diagonals out of hte equation that is a very specific pattern there. Weird.

In Germany you can refer to a cleavage as ‘the two log piles outside a wooden cabin’.
@Mito Man Might be one of the areas getting built on (I've lost track of what plans where have been proposed)

Here's another one I go past frequently
This looks like new construction site but looking at the most recent satellite image it's now back to a normal looking field

Ground investigation before development, perhaps?

It's a lot to be doing for GI. I can't imagine the ground would vary so much that you'd need to dig/investigate in so many areas. It would likely only give you topsoil readings as well where most GIs involve trial holes etc.

Googling criss cross pattern field investigation has returned me something!

Yep feels like there’s a new development going up in every town now. Won’t be long before London to Dover is just a solid stream of new build housing.

@ bigdog. I wasn't expecting that, I thought a wall or something was going to fall down when it pulled the block out.

I don't think this belongs here but I don't know where else to put it.
This bit; fair enough with the wrongly spaced ones, I feel a bit sorry for the people with otherwise legal spacing/font/etc.
Then there's this, compare the punishment;
