Not a bad weekend's racing

New pb in practice (only by 0.08, but a pb is a pb). Fourth in quali. Second place and old man's cup win in race one, 5th and old boys cup win in the second. And car brought home in one piece. That's got to be a good weekend by anyone's standard :D

But I can't help feeling what could have been...the championship leader (proper talented kid with proper team behind him) was on his spare engine and a couple of bhp down on power. I was right with him through the first race, and even closing the gap on the straights, so really felt like I could have a proper pop at him in the second. However, it wasn't to be - I got an 8/10 start and held him at 2 car lengths for a couple of laps, but then the talent started to show - he just makes fewer mistakes. The first little error cost me another two car lengths, then the second another 2. Without the tow up the straight, I lost another length, and at this point the gap became insurmountable. Fine, settle for another second place. But no. Some little twat (who'd also taken someone out in the first race) smashed into me from behind as I was turning into a 90mph corner (his fibreglass nose against my metal gearbox, so no damage for me). Somehow managed to hang onto it, but two laps later he's at it again. Comes sailing down the inside on the grass and forces me to swerve mid-way through the same corner and take to the escape road. Lost 4 places. Gained one back to re-secure the old man's cup, but gutted to have been robbed.

One slight consolation is that the Autosport photographer managed to perfectly catch the moment of the rear-end shunt, so I expect the kid's in for a shaming in next week's edition.

8-) Nice one.

Not good knowing there is a liability on track with you :?

There's always one or two every year. Mostly, as is the case here, it's an unfortunate combination of rich daddy (so no consequences) and an overdeveloped sense of entitlement ("I've got the most expensive car, paid-for team and *deserve* to be in F1").
It doesn't help that their paid-for teams make money every time they bend bits, so don't exactly have the right incentives to calm these crazy kids down (far from it, they usually pat them on the back for their "aggression").
Still, the loss of a couple of places is a lot better than a broken car or a trip to the medical centre.

Good effort. No way to flag the Muppet or is it down as a racing incident?

Were you able to point out the error of his ways?

Does this mean we can expect a limited run of "Strong Brew Racing - Old Mans Cup FTWFW" ?

Congratulations!

Re. Protesting - I have a principle. I don't protest.
In most cases you've got nothing to gain (unless you've been knocked from 1st to 2ND or whatever), and it's a whole world of club politics.
If the clerk of the course calls me up, I'll present my evidence, but I won't initiate a protest.

Interested to hear opinions on this. In relation to said little that's incident in race 1 (which was deemed 100% his fault by the Clerk of the Course).

Honestly? Just looked like an error on his part to me rather than anything intentional. He was taking a consistent line that you happened to be on rather than a lunge.

Still sounds like he needs his head getting a flush in the khazi, mind. And of course I could be completely wrong - you were there mate, a vid can't compare to that.

He does sound like a cock, if that helps?

Doesn’t look intentional to me, just really 5hit driving. Not sure where he expected the big red FF car beside him might suddenly disappear to? :?

I read his twitter profile, and the inclusion of “godson of Dario Franchitti” - and immediately made my mind up about him.

Vid is of the Race1 incident JL with another car not the later impact with Neil.

I’m not sure what rules apply to your series but in F1 you just need to have your nose alongside their rear tyre and they have to give you the space. It seems clumsy on his part as he didn’t expect you but then from his Facebook comment seems like he saw you and intentionally turned in.
