If Aston and McLaren are struggling then I doubt these will be able to carry on

It’s in the article. Basically the welsh government will finish the factory structure and lease it back to them on the basis they secure funding to get to production. Shows how much confidence the government have in it...

Oh and they have no employees. The only ones on the books are company directors. Scandal of missing cash incoming?

What was the final nail for the original TVR? Or did it go wrong after that Smolenski guy bought it?

It went wrong after he bought it, but I remember he was trying to do a lot to improve the quality of the product but sales dropped quite a bit and they made staff redundant. I think it all went tits up when Peter Wheeler refuses to renew the lease on the TVR factory and wanted to put a housing estate on the land instead, there was a bit of a crisis to find a new factory and that never happened.

Wiki link,

I think he just gave up and stripped the assets after that. It’s almost like PW knew what he was doing...

Probably not “missing” as such. Generous pension contributions to the directors and engaging highly expensive consultants/mates.

Bold new plan to get around to possibly making some cars in 2022.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Reading that has reminded me to checked sniffpetrol.
For which there's been no updates since December.

I would love the following to happen....

The press reports to say it’s great.
The delivery of cars to be steady and relatively problem free.
It to be very popular due to the ban of pure IC cars in 2030.
TVR to be a nice nice again halo sports car make.

I am willing to bet 1 whole pound on this.

Dave!

My first thought on this upon seeing it again was that it looks very tired now. Funnily I said the same last summer. Really needs a facelift on the front end

I thought exactly that - maybe they will change the front end prior to full production.

I loved TVR when I was a kid, their resurgence in the 90s was perfectly done - cheap performance and crazy styling. I drove my first one in my mid 20s (Tamara) and it was exactly as I expected, loud, fast and falling to bits.

They need to let it go though, if they can't come in cheaper or faster than the competition, then they're wasting their time. And as for the whole welsh gov funding - that's just going to end in tears.

I don't think they have to be faster than the competition, but they definitely have to be cheaper, simpler, and look spectacular.

I don't really know what the rules are nowadays in terms of safety gizmos, but the likes of Morgan seem to manage.

The engine is fine from my point of view, but although I don't hate the styling either, it's just not special enough to really lust after unfortunately, and the price needs to be sub-£60k in today's market.

I do really hope they keep afloat and come up with something a bit sexier, but as we know, it's not easy to be a low volume car manufacturer.
