Not spelling, but for some reason I seem to enjoy saying words (just to myself) with emphasis on the wrong syllable. Like par-tik-you-
LAAHR-lee instead of par-
TIK-you-lahr-lee, and confusing myself later over which is the correct version.

It is amazing how changing the emphasis can make words incomprehensible. We're so attuned to hearing things in specific ways that it is genuinely tricky to understand someone using a different emphasis.

Deffo.
Also it's confusing that "bricking it" and "bricked up" are very, very different meanings

Ha.
This next gen alpha are absolutely f-ed as everything they see is on screen with erroneous AI generated phonetic based subtitles.
My recent favourite was that it translated Bach as Bark. They're absolutely not going to have a clue.

A small snippet of those I encounter in my profession life are:
Slither instead of sliver e.g. a slither of land
Refuge vehicle instead of refuse vehicle
And one colleague pronounces cumulative as - ker-myoo-la-tiv, rather than kyoo-myoo-la-tiv.

And flammable and inflammable.

There a very slim chance of that brick catching fire. Also, fat chance that brick's catching fire.
Are the chances slim or fat? Or both? Schroedinger's chance?

Part of this is definitely regional accents and lack of enunciation. There really shouldn't be any confusion between spe-cific and pacific other than the fact they end in "cific".

I should really lob in my biggest pet hate - the inability to pronounce the letter U not in the same way as a toddler, e.g. Formula One is Form-you-la not For-moo-la. If you can't say the word you shouldn't be allowed to commentate on it (David Croft).

Yeah, that one comes out of my fingers quite a lot.
I'm also really bad at privilege (which I mistyped as privilige there originally to make the point to myself apparently), which is a problem when you work with SQL databases as it's a common thing to need to update/mod.
