My wife has had a promotion and she will now need to shout big business a bit more, have a headset for international calls and generally be more of a London wanker. She will need a bigger desk as I believe she will have to deal with the Irish more so space will be needed for beer during meetings.

Lots of electrically raising desks available but any to look out for or types to avoid?

Standing up a few hours a day will be good as even though she has a good office chair its still 10 hours a day sat on your butt otherwise.

Standing desks are cool - have used one, but I don't have one - which is why I need my sex festival chair.

Rather than a headset, I have one of these speakers for conf calls - this model is outdated now, but sound quality (in both directions) is excellent, and it's far more relaxing for longer calls. You can get 510 and 510+ > the "+" version has a bluetooth dongle as well as USB for more positional flexibilities.

Edit: looks like THIS is the replacement model - around £180.

I should have been clearer, at home she is fine through the speakers but she got a headset for when she is at the office as it's a bit wanky to have it on speakers in an open space.

I'll put that speaker to her though as it will probably be better than what she uses currently.

Making her office, small box room, a bit more professional I think will help her.

I bought a Desktronic HomePro recently, very happy with it. Had an electric (but no memory) ikea one for 10 years that has gone to my son instead, this is way sturdier, quicker, quieter than that. Good range of colours/sizes/materials too.

Memory settings mean I actually stand more because it’s way less faff to get it to where I want it to be.

In true forum tradition I was going to recommend what I've got, a GoStand desk which I've had for a few years now and has survived being dismantled a few times for house moves.

But it appears they're no longer operating, so don't buy one of those.

It adds to the cost, but I think electric, with dual motors and memory functions is the way to go. Once she's worked out her preferred heights for sitting and standing then set the memory and it becomes a piece of cake to switch between the two.

Get a decent chair to go with it though.

In case it saves you some money... there was research recently that showed that standing desks are not really the health benefit they were previously assumed to be.

It's purely so she isn't sat for 10 hours, it's not for a health benefit really, more a lazyitus one.

I love mine, had it for 6 years and it’s brilliant for meetings and presentations, my energy is much better when standing. Also useful to stand sometimes simply to kick my ass into gear. As l long as it’s electric and preferably with memory I’m not sure there’s much else to look out for. Mine was an ex-office clearance one which is very sturdy and has built in cable management routing too.

There’s always a load of s/h ones on eBay and FB after people bought them post-2020 then never used them

Get her a balance board for when she's standing up. Activates the core and legs, makes for a mini workout, and means you're doing more than just standing upright.

You've just reminded me - this was the recommendation actually. The requirement to balance did a lot more than mere standing along. You could also do it whilst sitting down - i.e. sat on a pilates ball or something.
