I like a mug of good coffee but I don't drink enough to justify the cost of a machine. I was talking to a lass on a coffee stand at Eddfest, random I know, and she said I just need a single cup percolator. Does anyone have such a thing? I saw this, will it suffice?

Yes, the Aeropress are great - never used one (have a B2C) but only heard good things and are highly regarded.

Only thing is, while I'm not a full coffee nerd, I do find that freshly ground coffee is much nicer than pre-ground stuff, so you might want to pair it with a grinder (they're cheap enough).

It's much simpler, doesn't require you to actually do anything/use any pressure etc

One of my friends has one and it makes good coffee in about as simple way as possible

Go to Tkmaxx and buy yourself a little stove top moka pot. Essentially makes a strong espresso, then you can do whatever you want with it. Drink as is, hot milk for a latte, hot water for americano etc

Yeah, our espresso machine broke ages ago and I’ve never got round to fixing it because the aeropress is so convenient.

Our grinder is just a blade grinder we got from ikea years ago, also cheap as chips and does the job

As above, Aeropress great for a typical americano style brew, Mokka for a great morning dose. I have a hand grinder too, for those extra special times.

I'm surprised no votes for a cafetiere. I like a proper coffee a few times a year at home, it's cheap, easy, quick and tastes great.

You can buy a Nespresso machine for £69.. is it really worth multiple machines and hassle trying gto do it by hand?

Aeropress makes great coffee, had mine since 2012 and replaced the rubber piece once. Was my twice daily caffeine supply for years before work got an espresso machine but if I feel like a Long black (Americano?) I'd still use the press. Have also taken it camping.

There's deffo a natural progression of accumulating kit but it gets a bit much and irritating having to wash up 5 different things each time you make a drink. I find a good bean to cup machine is worth it, you get 90% of the result with minimal hassle, you can select your beans and grind and that in itself is the biggest thing.
Coffee should be a nice treat and not just a bitter caffeine hit. Unfortunately most people haven't experienced good coffee, all of the stuff sold in high street chains and most stuff sold in supermarkets is overprocessed but it's what they're used to.

I binned my Nespresso for a cheap Aeropress and amazon bean grinder years ago. It's the simplest answer to a good coffee without turning into a tedious wanker about it.

Another aeropress vote here! I've had two for about 10-15 years. Periodically get pulled back into use when needed.

I also really enjoy a pourover too, I've got this one which for £18 is great value and makes a nice cup.

Very true - but I have a Tassimo and during the day, when I'm working from home, it does the job fine. I can pop down and 2 mins later, I'm back at my desk with a cup. Only gripe is it's not hot enough.

for the weekend mornings, I just use a Cafetiere.

I nearly bought a "bean to cup" machine when we bought this house but the budget went on something else... New Orange Blinds for the whole back of the house IIRC

Also, whoever invented the aeropress must have absolutely minted it over the years. £35 for a 4-part injection mould is crazy money, the profit margin on that is wild. I'm sure they've spent a lot of cash defending the patent etc, which is due to expire next year so expect cheap knock-offs to appear soon.

Do you prefer the coffee pooped out by a civet, or an elephant? I haven't tried either yet.

Yeah, I'm perfectly happy with a cafetiere. I bought a phin filter when I was in Vietnam and that makes pretty nice coffee too.
