I’m not a 32 inch waist, they are too small and a 34 is so big that they bunch up under a belt and the metal clasp thing always come open! I’m a 33 inch waist, I can get them in jeans, why can’t I find a pair of smart trousers in my size!?

yeah, i’m with you - 33 would be perfect. then it comes down to the stupid sizing in some brands. i’m a 32w 30l in diesel jeans but a 32w 34l in levi’s jeans. it’s fucking stupid. my legs do not vary 4 inches….

GAP used to do 31", 33" 35" etc with their Trousers back in the day but I haven't been in one for years so no idea if they still do

On leg lengths, I was completely unaware until last week that when buying jeans etc it’s the measurement from your sack down and not the measurement of your actual leg.

I bought some Levis cords that were a little bit baggy by design and therefore the crotch area was lower than standard. I’ve had them adjusted and also learnt something but there needs to be reform in the industry.

Huh - but that dimension does change depending on hot/cold.

Waist measurement also isn’t the waist. Makes no sense at all.

Jeans are a law unto themselves, every brand fits differently.

15 years ago I spent a whole day in the west end trying on jeans from every major high street brand and none of them fitted. The waist circumference to leg circumference was always wrong. So I ignored my budget and tried some higher-end brands and found one whose jeans fitted absolutely like a glove.

The problem is that these jeans are £250 a pair. For the next decade I lived off that brand, either buying in the sale or s/h off eBay. It’s the only way, you’ve gotta do an exhaustive search to find your brand, then you’ll be set for ages.

And those boujie brands (7 for all mankind in my case) also do waist sizes that go up in 1 inch increments.

Well then they need to set a standard testes temperature for the purpose of measurement and stick to it, but that’s one for the boffins to sort out. BigTrouser are making billions out of people’s misery and I demand an inquiry. Harrumph.

ETA GIC. Why bother with a tape measure when every brand seems to use a different one.

I realise you’re joking but without having to pay extra to have them modified after which they never fit or feel right you have no options. You would say to someone with size 10 feet, “you’ve got size 9 or 11, that’s your choice!”

Levis in the US come in 1" increments too. I still find I need to try on every pair that is labelled as my size to find the ones which actually fit.

It annoys me that Levis in the UK are big enough to have decent sized brand stores but the range is nowhere near as good as in the US.

I’m certain you can get a 33” waist on Levi’s here. Used to be my size.

to be fair, what pisses me off more than weird sizing on jeans is jeans which stretch and sag to a completely different size after wearing once. Every time you wash them they go back to fitting right, for about an hour.

surely they can make denim more stable.

Wrangler are particularly bad for this, it seems the darker the material the better they keep their shape.

A lot seem to have elastic material int he weave these days. It's incredibly annoying. Vanity sizing is a load of bollocks as well. I still buy a 30" waist, but am definitely a 31. And yet even some 30" ones will be loose after a few wears. I measured a pair off once, and I'm sure they were actually a 32" waist despite being labelled as 30.

I think it’s more of a comfort thing? I remember the old jeans being really stiff and generally uncomfortable. Nowadays it’s not the case and I doubt they’d serve their original purpose as actual manual work wear as they’re pretty thin and soft.

I wear Lee jeans as they come in 3 waist and are usually on offer on Amazon, they are really comfy and last well.
