I slowed down when I got the warning of police ahead on new year's eve, but not quickly enough. So if Waze could somehow make the alert a bit earlier please that would be great. Thanks.

Frustrating... Should be configurable because some Waze users will probably need more **cough** notice of speed checks

It was on the A417 near Cirencester. Anyone who travels that road knows it's very straight so with their laser sights they can see you a long way away and get a proper speed reading. Annoying; I saw the Waze warning, lifted off and slowed to about 75 on the speedo by the time I could see the van. Got done for 81. My advice: slam on as soon as Waze warns you - that's got to be the safest thing to do

The beauty of Waze is that this feature is available to users. The weakness of Waze is that it relies on a user raising the alert. If you are in a 20 limit, you're still very close to the rozzers by the time you remember which button-smash combo you need to go through to flag a scamera van. On a faster road you're invariably far further away before your fat fingers manage the task.

Maybe Waze alert timing should consider your current velocity? And if it already does - maybe it should do it more?

I travel the route Jobbo got caught on a couple of times a week. The camera vans are quite prolific, Waze has saved me a number of times. But yeah, very straight road and I think Waze warns you 0.3 miles before the van which isn’t sufficient there.

I’ve noticed Waze doesn’t always give me an audio alert for them, just flashes up on the screen. Tried updating the app but no joy.

It's been over a decade, but I still remind Mrs Mik that she referred to the above as "Churk-un-chester" when we were visiting that area.

Yeah, I do that route pretty often and am well aware of the camera vans. I'd already passed a camera van on the M5 shortly after leaving home on that same journey so I was deliberately being cautious about my speed; enforcement seems to be ramped up over the Christmas and New Year period.

I'd been behind slow people from the end of the Missing Link roadworks and accelerated only briefly as they finally pulled over to clear the dawdlers so I honestly didn't think they'd caught me because I was already slowing down anyway. Lifting off simply didn't slow me down quickly enough. Bang to rights.

A mate got done for 36 in a 30 before Christmas and has already booked a speed awareness course in March, so I'm hoping I get my course offer shortly and I can book the same one.
