Anyone got kids getting their results this morning ?

My lad got 1 A and 2 B's which was enough to secure his Uni place so he's happy enough. Going to take a year out first though.

Stepson got BBE, which was surprisingly good tbh! And saved us having to get him a Rolex! (Motivation to achieve CCC) His mum is less happy however, £18k per term well spent!

Does he know what he's going to do next ??

I'm waiting to hear from our admissions office how many of the people we interviewed last year made the grade - always an exciting time when you see people you liked get the grades and know you'll be seeing them in October.

But to be honest, I really want him to think about it because I think a degree apprentice scheme would be a better option all round. We're sort of lucky to have a lot of options in Milton Keynes with the likes of Volkswagen and Mercedes having HQ's here. Santander have a massive operation and BarclayCard's UK HQ isn't too far away in Northampton.

Get a Chartered Degree in Business Management, 3 or 4 years work experience and Zero Student debt seems like a better option than a Business or an Economics degree - 2 disciplines which AI is probably going to render redundant

My Daughter did get her Higher results a week or so ago, 4 x A and 2 x B althouh she is appealing one of the B grades. It is enough to get into St Andrews to read History, which is her current desire, but she has 6th year and 3 Advanced Highers this year, so she may change her mind.

Gievn due to scheduling adn timetabling issues she taught herself HIgher Maths for a third of the year, and two others she swapped about, we are very. very proud of her.

My g/f's lad got a Distinction in his T-Level Construction Management, the firm he's been work experiencing at during his course offered him either a full time job or a degree apprenticeship even before he got his results so he's pretty happy and we're super proud of his hard work. He;s going to do the degree apprenticeship.

Earning 19k at 18 with zero student debt is a pretty good start in life.

These day release degree apprenticeships are really good if you're interested in construction, I highly recommend them. I've works with loads of people over the years that have done or are doing them. Not only are you debt free when you graduate, and have a solid salary, you also have a crucial few years of experience on your CV. One lad I was working with for 9 years was a Commercial Manager on a very strong salary when I left while still in his 20s, usually something you might achieve in 30s or 40s.

Oh, I actually did my masters on day release / paid for as well, but I was a bit older.

In general I recommend getting into QSing if he can. Less stress and better money than the more engineering background management roles. It's been a long and often painful grind for me to carve out a role I actually enjoy.

My friends lad is doing an apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying - he's loving it, earning enough money for a 20 year old living at home and has a van and travels all over. When he was thinking about it, he asked me as I've an Engineering background so I just told him about JL, formally of this parish, as an ultimate career move - Dubai earning 6 figures with your own speedboat

My lad's set on business or economics so I think one of the degree apprenticeship in one of the banks or finance houses is probably his best route in. I think Santander do theirs in partnership with University of Manchester so decent degrees can be got that way

Not A levels, but seeing as we are singing the praises of our young proteges - the foster lad has just completed his first full week of school since he was 12 (16 now). Managed to engineer 5 NAT4s out of last year (everything that was possible on a remote coursework-only basis).

Considering that a year ago, the chances of ever setting foot in school again or any qualifications at all looked to be absolute zero, I'm bursting with pride for the lad.

That’s a big jump for a teenager in their headstrong phase, that’s a big deal!! They will go far.
