Anyone have any cool stuff?

I bought a poster recently of the 1970 Le Mans running - Porsche's first overall win, signed by Dickie Atwood and various others that raced in that period and in the 956s that followed.

As ever the cost of framing was about the same as the thing itself! I did inflict pain on myself by also getting a 9 foot wide panorama of Hong Kong done at the same time so the bill was ridiculous

I've got several Porsche ones like that round the house. Unsigned though My favourite is this one.

I have a few Guy Allen numbered prints and an original Nurburgring poster from the 70's all of which need framing. Also an original from Jo Burt of the immortal Mint Sauce - but that's MTB not cars. Also needs framing.

Which leads me to the next question... We need to see the 9ft HK panorama.

I’ve got a sales brochure for a Ferrari 348ts at my mams house somewhere

My dad walked into a Ferrari dealership when he worked in London and asked for a brochure for his son

Non motorsport/cars but still cool os the menu he mailed my mam from Concorde with a handwritten note on the back, blaming his wobbly writing on turbulence and definitely not champagne and cigars

I’m making a coffee table out of a BMW N63 block

Would have been ready 2 weeks ago but the delivery driver threw the glass over the gate
Got some car seats too that I want to make into a set. Still don’t know if it’ll look nice or shit. Will just give it to the goats to play with if it’s shit.

These are the best combo for me - seats out of an old comfy car rather than buckets made into a gaming chair. I also like the way this table just sits on the block (plus it has 4 more cylinders - sorry mito )

I probably over-egged it. It isn't quite 9 foot but its taller than me so still probably 7 foot.

I also should have said it is a panorama of Hong Kong... in 1860, so likely not what you were expecting



Fortunately there is handily placed shelf in my office so I didn't need to worry myself with affixing it to the wall!

I spent a lot of time getting into shooting panoramic images, kinda before software did it all for you and there was a heap of technique involved. I then promptly realised printing any and framing them became really hard because a frame with glass meant finding pieces of glass that would resists the twist and tension inevitable from something that shape.

I am still harbouring (see what I did there) a want to print and frame some of them though. I imagine the fact it's on a shelf rather than mounted really helps.

Cheers! You should definitely do it. This one is 6 photos originally - you can just see the bandings in the image. I say 'photo' but expect these were glass plates back in the mid 19th century. The frame certainly does have glass in it - description of the framers was as below:

Posters to be dry mounted to dibond, matched together at centre line to make one piece. Trim to remove copyright bottom
right corner. Box frame in 12x45mm splined black walnut profile. With matching timber fillets. Glazed with 3mm AR70 anti-reflective glass offering 70% UV protection. Subframe with integrated split batten hanging system.

I didn't take a picture of the back but it has some pretty industrial bracing to give it rigidity - I did ask about this as I was concerned how stable it would be. I should have known better though as the guy I use does art gallery exhibitions and interestingly given my line of work, has just been commissioned to re-frame the entire art collection at a Magic Circle law firm (I expect I am probably an irritation to him at this stage )

My folks climbed all the Munro's - finishing them whilst I was in my 20's. It was only later in life that I realised what a feat this was.

My dad always took his 35mm camera with him and (unless prevented by weather) took a panorama at the peak. My eldest does some hill walking and recently my mum passed down my dad's journals - with notes on each climb and all the panoramas obviously. There are about 10 journals, all "ballooned" massively due to the thickness of all the photos. It's a really nice set to have - you can really see how his technique improved over time.

Yes, very cool - its nice having them in the original journals but would be cool to have them all framed and on the wall too. Maybe you could have them copied?
