Anyone got a Citroen C3/DS3?

Maybe more for people we know, I don't think anyone here has one - apparently Citroen have sent out DO NOT DRIVE letters over the Takata airbag problem, after it killed someone

Stop-drive recalls, where owners are told not to use their cars at all due to safety risks, are rare. This one affects all C3 and DS3 models built from 2009-2016, as well as a handful of DS3s produced from 2016-2019. Stellantis said they should not be driven until airbags produced by the now defunct Japanese supplier Takata have been replaced.

It is the latest development in a long-running saga which has led to the recall of an estimated 100 million cars worldwide over the past decade.

The issue was brought back into focus last month by the death of a motorist in northern France. A 37-year-old woman driving a Citroen C3 was killed after a minor collision in Reims when she was struck by flying metal from a faulty airbag.
Perhaps one for the legal beagles on here, but if the manufacturer says "do not drive" and you continue to drive, that's gonna likely invalidate your insurance, right? Even more so than removing locking wheelnuts

So maybe one for C3/DS3 owners to take seriously as opposed to the usual recall letters we've probably all been getting?

The Takata airbag recall is being handled wildly differently across different countries. In America 'Do not drive' applies to every car with one fitted whereas we seem to just have a standard recall for them. Citroen seem to be taking it more seriously following a death last week in a C3 where the airbag went through the driver's head.
But I think the same has happened in BMWs too.

Just to be clear, this is bad right?

It’s sub optimal.

Depends who's driving, tbh.

That will be the next ppi / car finance thing

“Have you incurred hire car costs for fear of your Citroen blowing your face off with its faulty airbag?”

That was my thought when I read this yesterday. They’re telling you not to drive but surely a lot of people rely on their car?

I’d be tempted to unplug the airbag and drive around as normal, maybe a bit of tape over the dash light 😄

You'd bloody hope so....!

My thought was 'disconnect the airbag and declare it to insurance' so that if someone does bang your car up, you've paid the extra to be covered for the additional risk of not having an airbag, which if you don't declare it, might lead to shenanigans.

Ultimately I've not thought about it that hard, however, as I don't own a C3/DS3

In fairness, I frequently tell people not to drive C3s. Usually because they're idiots who can't drive and I'm yelling out of my car window at them.
