To sit betwixt 394PS Carrera T, and the 541PS GTS. New Carrera S has 480PS.

Base price is £5k more than the T (at <chokes> £120k before options). 8sp PDK only.

Yeah I'd take the 992 over that. Although I suspect it'll be over £145k once you've added just a few options.....

Watched the Harry’s garage vid earlier.

You’d have to really want the stupidly geared 6 speed manual of the T to not spend the extra £5k for the 90bhp more S. Got to be some of the best value bhp/£ increase from any manufacturer!

The little gear layout stickers on it are pretty tragic too.

Yeah I saw that and involuntarily said out loud "oh, how embarrassing"

Imagine having a "I have a manual gearbox <smug>" sticker on a car where everyones granny (until quite recently) drives a fucking manual.

Truly pathetic.

The Carrera S was launched a while ago - it seemed expensive at first but the whole range got price rises and it now looks the sweet spot again. I’d definitely have one but not necessarily over a barely used 992.1 Carrera S with lots of options.

I've officially lost track of the model range now but after watching Harry's video, I'm not sure I see the point of the S at all.

Who thought of the manual gearbox sticker and interior stuff, that's utterly tragic.

It feels like one of those things that Porsche fanboys will wet themselves over in 20 years?
It has a manual sticker. Barely anyone bought them so they’re rare. £5 million car.

Buy one and stick it in a barn for 20 years. Retirement plan sorted!

Performance is ridiculous these days..new GTS: 0-60 in 2.75 in a RWD (M4 CS and Bentley Conti both recording 2.8 or less!, but AWD) and 30-70 0.2 secs quicker than 992.1 Turbo S! 3.6L engine is meant to sound more like an old skool 911.. think the front looks okay in dark colours on GTS, and the engine difference makes it more appealing than the S to me

To prove you’ve lost track, that’s the T not the S. Unlike the 992.1 the manual gearbox isn’t an option on a range of specs, it’s a model in its own right (the T). Which comes with hideous blue stickers and wheels if you don’t unspec them. Don’t think the awful gearshift sticker is optional so get the hairdryer out 😄

Reading that back, I’ve spent far too long comparing 992 specs 😂

No desire for that T.

I do like the look of the 992 GTS but they're just not a particularly good value proposition any more IMO. I think a Carrera 4 GTS would be almost spot on £50,000 more than my 991 Carrera 4 GTS was new (so 50%).

Do we think prices will keep going up by 50% every 10 years? They certainly did not do that in the past. Think the jump from 996 to 997 was negligible, for example.

When I got in the MX5, there's definitely some nostalgic coming into play. The look of it, the short shift, the lovely top to the shifter, how it feels. So I immediately want a manual.

But would I actually, really want one day to day? Unless I was getting an old Ferrari? Maybe not...

I remember almost buying a 4 year old 997s for £40k in 2010. In today's money that's £60k which would get you an 8 year old 991 now.

Car costs have crept up a fair amount in the last 10 years or so. Credit/leases/PCP/etc has meant the actual RPP isn’t particularly relevant to the deal, so the makers just inflate it to make the deal look even better.

“I’m paying £1k a month for a 3 series, but it’s an £80k car so that’s a bargain!!!!”

Yes people are effectively just looking at what monthlies they can afford versus whether it in fact makes any sort of sense from a value proposition.

That’s exactly my reasoning - MX5=toy=mechanical and fun. I’d still not buy a 992 GT3 in manual form though; the PDK is too good and everything else about it is modern. A manual gearbox probably means I’d not use 9000rpm as much as the PDK.

I know this thread isn’t about GT3s but pretty much every 992 GT3 Touring I’ve seen specced have been Oak Green Neo with manual gearbox. So if I do get an allocation (still not certain and on dodgy ground if there’s a Dakar produced anyway) then I’ll at least have a different spec to everyone else 😄
