Straightforward this one...

My BIL gave me a basic NextBase one a few years back at Christmas, but other than testing that it works (and discovering that it has to be plugged in constantly - it has an onboard battery but (by design ) it lasts about 10mins) it's sat in a box in the cupboard.

So whilst technically the answer to your question is "yes" - I went for "no".

If my driving was primarily urban and I didn't have easy access to lots of good roads, I think I'd fit one.

Sounds like a similar story to me. There was some box of stuff with a lease car I got and it had one in it. After a couple of years I did actually open the box and get it working, but I never could be arsed to actually use it. I think it's still in the glovebox.

On a (kinda) related note - are radar detectors still a thing? (I've never used/owned one).

If I am driving longer journeys, I often stick WAZE on - even if I am not using it to guide me - it's identified mobile speed-camera vans for me more than once.....

I had the same thought last week and bizarrely an advert popped up for Road Angels so they are still available but they are not purely radar detectors now.

Yep, I bought one a couple of weeks ago and fitted it yesterday. Drivers in this part of London are absolutely mental. I had one guy kick off at me recently because I used the right-hand lane at a traffic light-controlled crossroads to go straight on, where it's NO RIGHT TURN. Another dude used me as a mobile chicane a couple of weeks ago and only missed me by inches. It's only so long before I'm going to need that footage to dispute a claim

I've had one on the daily for a few years, for reasons Gavster mentions, I don't trust the morons around me. Case in point, last month I was rolling to a gentle stop at some roundabout lights and a toothless bint managed to run into the back of me. The camera is front facing but I at least caught the minute leading up to the event, and the tap itself. I've not submitted the footage, but it's there if I need it.

Driving standards have fallen off a cliff in recent years IMO, I'm getting a rear camera soon, just waiting for any sales.

We got one for the wife's Smart. I paid for it to be hardwired in so no issues with battery life but I've yet to really look into the footage.

The main driver for it was scooter cash for crash scams around here which my wife was worried about as they usually target women drivers.

I don't think I'd have one on either of my cars.

Yeah if I get one it'll be front and rear. The route I go to work is littered with junctions and slip roads that people seem unable to navigate properly. I had an idiot in front of me do an emergency stop on a slip road joining a busy motorway this morning. Big accident narrowly avoided.

I have a Nextbase one which Mrs Jobbo gave me about 4-5 years ago. I wired it into my CLS Shooting Brake and decided that it captured virtually nothing of any interest, but was more likely to be used as evidence of me speeding or something, so I have not fitted it to any car since. Hence I voted for the 1966 World Cup.

I agree with Jobbo. I can imagine being Kamikazied by someone but the decision going 50/50 because I was 5 mph over the limit and also being slapped with 3 points.

The magic trick is to get one with an optional GPS unit....and not use it. No speed on the video then. Because, yes, a GPS verified 75mph on the motorway might not look too great

I've got an old one that I was going to put in the M135i but I think I'll get a new one that's 4k60 with a rear camera - prices for those are better these days.
