Probably a strange question, but is there anything like google earth, or which you can use with google earth data to stick a building in a landscape and see how it looks?

Just something I was pondering today while driving.

There used to be an airship station near where I work, two huge sheds, they were removed long before I was born, one being moved to Cardington in 1930.

Just curious to see just how huge they would have been and how they must have dominated the surrounding area given how flat it is.

I’m assuming there’s no cheap / easy way to do this and appreciate it’s a pretty specific ask

You can do custom overlays on Google Maps. Never tried it, but it is possible.

Might be worth checking out Google Earth Studio. I’ve not used it but heard that it’s got a load of creative tools

Have a look at Cardington on Streetview; that’ll give you sufficient context as to how big they look. I acted for the buyer of the unused one and the land around (for housing) about 20 years ago and visited; you do need to get up close before they give the full impression of their size. The main road (A600) past them is far enough away to take that scale away.

This sounds like something you should be able to ask ChatGPT to generate.

I have had a look on Streetview now - you can see them from much closer due to the new housing. And they do look bigger from the A600 than from right next to them on Streetview

I did however street view the cardington hangers, and they look pretty impressive! Would be very tempted to have a drive past if I ever happen to be out that way

Hey, that's a cool idea! You could try SketchUp — the basic version is free plus it allows you to bring in as information from Google Earth to placing and modeling the 3D info. Although it may not be perfect, one could always try to model the sheds into the landscape in order to have that feel. Others that can be use include, the free Blender which is however more complex and may take some efforts to learn how to use. Hope that helps!
