My beef is stuff you can only find on the free ad stuffed apps or you can’t find at all. First Silent Hill movie, I’m looking at you.

It's the phrase quietly dropped. It's bloody everywhere and it's daft, because I'd imagine whoever is doing the dropping, does want you to watch the bloody thing. Eg:

I assume it's quietly dropped by one service and appears as a paid thing on another - and these articles are a way of promoting it. Pure advertising. Very prevalent in online local news.
Talking of which, it was pretty hard to read Gloucestershire Live without any ad-blockers previously - and they regularly had articles about Hammond (Herefordshire) or Clarkson (Oxfordshire) which they presumably justify on the basis they live in adjoining counties, but mainly for clicks. Now they've managed to update it in such a way that I can only see the first four articles on my phone. So I've stopped even bothering to look at the site. Excellent work.

There was a memo sent out - I think you must have been quietly dropped from the copy list.

Click bait article titles. Usually AI generated, Metro and this local papers are terrible for it.
