That’s my favourite car collection ever, F1 cars are something else.

What a pointless exercise. They should be in a museum for the public to enjoy and learn the history of the sport and teams.

Instead they'll most likely disappear into private collections never to be seen again.

Hardly pointless, he's said he's doing it so his family don't have to and while I'm sure there's another reason with Bernie, if museum's want them they can buy them.

Bernie's family definitely need that extra couple of hundred mill!

If it were me I'd be figuring out a way to get them into museum/s, but they're his so if he wants more cash for the fam I guess that's fair enough.

They're all in a hangar at Bicester, I was speaking to someone recently that was granted access which apparently is harder than getting in to Buckingham Palace for a private audience with the king.

If they go to a museum they’ll never be used again. As it is Bernie is pretty good with showing off the collection. He brought a selection of cars out each year to Goodwood and they’re all in drivable condition.
Hopefully some of the new owners continue that.

He could do that but he didn't become a billionaire by giving things away. You don't just lose that mentality.

There is truth in that, it's like the entire David Bowie archive going to the V&A rather than auction. If these, or even a handful of them went to motor museums it would be a fabulous thing. Although we always knew Bernie was all about the dollar.

Yup. And if he wants them to be rolled out for events, he can stipulate that as a condition of the donation and even include an endowment for upkeep and shows.

I wonder what sort of deal he did with Tom Hartley Jnr - independent brokers in the classic car world typically take 2-3% on the high value stuff. A nice payday for zero financial outlay on a collection, like this!

My old boss sold him a couple of cars in the 1980/90s when he was building the collection. I think they were Maseratis, but don't recall what. As is clear from what has been written, his comments about the transactions centred around zero loyalty and just getting the deal that he wanted, despite them knowing each other quite well.

Did Bernie ever let these cars be used? I seem to recall some being on display at Goodwood, but can't remember them being driven. It's not as if he lets people go and view them...
