Sounds sensible.jamcg wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 5:13 pmYou could go the other way and convert the race car to road spec, go singer dls style and have interchangeable boot lids with or without wing for track useduncs500 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 3:54 pm Slightly left field, but I'd quite like to do an E89 Z4. Rip out the folding hard top gubbins (along with a load more weight) and put in some hidden scaffolding and a proper hard top (because stiffness). I dunno, S85 V10 or something. I just think it was a cool looking car that never really got proper M-car treatment.

Re: Your Restomod
I thought the i8 was originally meant to have a V10 - would be cool bin the hybrid and 1.5l turd and put a V10 back in one.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Your Restomod
Part (maybe not all) of the problem is that we always see vids of the company's promotional car, so they tend to stick on ALL the bits, even the ones that might not be in the best taste. We don't often see customer cars, which will have been individually spec'd hopefully with a little more taste and subtlety.integrale_evo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 6:32 pm
However I’m not entirely convinced by the Restomod thing as it’s termed these days. I think a lot of them go too far and engineer out the details and quirks that make me like the cars in the first place.
I'm sure Maturo would be more than happy to sort this out for you.integrale_evo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 6:32 pm So mine would be a delta integrale. Stripped, shell strengthened, maybe a hidden internal roll cage, fully galvanised. Composite bumpers, bonnet and tailgate to save some weight (painted so they look standard) tarmac rally spec wheel and suspension setup. Interior plastics made a bit less creaky. Modern engine management and turbo setup for about 350bhp with running gear suitably beefed up to cope.
But externally I wouldn’t want it to look modernised or modified.

I don't mind the yellow Alpina! But wow, there are some absolute shockers in there.
Re: Your Restomod
I saw one the other day and wondered if anyone had put an LS in one yet. TBH a K swap would be cool.
Still think they look brilliant.

I guess we should be grateful that the majority of those cars will never have been driven, I suspect.
I'm slightly smitten with the W140 estate though.

I’ll try and find the article where someone found a bunch of their cars basically abandoned in warehouses in the jungle. Interiors growing mould and everything.
Appalling waste.

My old boss had a W111 for a while with mostly W126 5.0V8 running gear, custom independent rear suspension and optional 15" 450SEL 6.9 wide alloys. Green with tan. It drove really well.DeskJockey wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 12:33 pm A Merc W111 coupe. Slightly lowered, full electric drivetrain, modern comforts. Doesn't need to be a rocketship, just to glide around in quietly on the weekend.
Volvo P1800 with the drivetrain from the Noble M600 (because Volvo used that V8 too, if you squint at the spec sheet).
BMW E24 with an E31 V12 drivetrain.
Just found that someone sold it at auction in 2017, but without the nice alloys filling the arches.

Re: Your Restomod
Some of those are abolutely gopping, others are like hot wheels cars, I also liked the big Merc estate, was there not a wite one on here with a totally green interior recently? Most likely in the Jobbo interior thread.
I would also like a late 928 with everything working, maybe with larger more modern alloys and stronger brakes and ideally a more modern stereo.
I like seeing some of the restomods in EVO, but usually not enough to pay £10k, let alone the hundreds of thousands many seem to cost.
I would like a rust free and very lightly modernised Saab 900 Aero and a Volvo 850R wagon, just with better lights, high fi, no mad performance mods.

So there’s only about 4 inches difference in the wheel base of a Tesla model s and a VW Type 2.

I'd also like a Carrera GT.
Rather than the original Michelin Pilot Sport 2's, it'll be modified and brought up to date with some Michelin Pilot Cup 2's, with a set of spare wheels shod in MPSS for wetter/cooler months.
OK - we're done.

I'd love to EV swap older stuff. A Lancia Aurelia GT or Tatra T77 as a cruiser and a Fulvia for around town.

Re: Your Restomod
I think part of the restomod fun is dipping into the cottage industries around well loved classics and seeing what is available, what specialists are out there to tinker for you, etc. I think an original mini would be great for these reasons as there is so much stuff out there to play with.
I think the other draw is to make the car you wish they had made. For this reason I always fancied making a Jaguar X-type R.

Re: Your Restomod
Toyota MR2 series one in the stillborn Group S spec but with a modern turbo and maybe fancy suspension and a non-stripped interior.
Re: Your Restomod
Oooh, interesting, what sort of spec are you thinking? I don't know if Noble turbots would fit (they probably would in an ali XJ...) but the Volvo V8 might - I'm sure I've seen one in a C30 somewhere. You'd have the same the problem again with Noble turbots, but at least a couple more cylinders and c.c..Explosive Newt wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:22 am I think the other draw is to make the car you wish they had made. I've oft pondered an Allroad type estate using Freelander suspension, surprised one of the yt channels hasn't done it yet (car throttle did it badly ).
