Anyone visited Stockholm?

Planning a trip there in July next year. Any recommendations of places to stay and things to see? I want to go to the Vasa museum and I’m open to any other ideas. Should be there for around 4 days.

Yes. But only on business. Hotel screw up meant I was given a suite which also has a sauna - I got into my room at 11:30pm. I was in the sauna until about 00:30 despite needing to be up at 06:00 for work - because how could I not?

Stockholm is a beautiful city, definitely worth it. Skansen (close to the Vasa museum) is worth a visit too.

Apart from that just ambling about Gamla Stan, and taking a sightseeing boat out into the archipelago is worth it.

I went in May, didn’t really do touristy things though.
Stayed in Hotel Reisen - Gamla Stan. Nice enough hotel. Didn’t have a sauna in my room.
But central location so you can walk everywhere. Stop every few hours for a coffee and cake/pastry. They know how to make them well there.

Östermalms Saluhall is a nice food hall in the posh part of town.
Norrmalm is the shopping area with large department stores.
Sodermalm is the up and coming trendy area.
Gamla Stan is the old town.

With 4 days you’ll see the entire city, it’s not big. Do walk around Skansen too. Don’t stand in the middle of footpaths or bike lanes or someone will knock you down 😂

Weather is good in July so might be worth doing a short boat trip.

Food there is excellent too.

My experience was:
Arrive approx 23:15
Oh we didn’t think you were coming now. We sold your room.

Ah it’s OK - we do have one room left. Third floor.

Take my stuff up to room - key card does not open door.

Take my stuff back to reception and explain.

That’s strange <click clack> here is another card. Should be fine now.

Take my stuff up to room - new key also does not open door. Getting a bit frustrated now.

Take my stuff back to reception. Lady is a little confused and flustered. Comes with me back to room with a machine - plugs that into door. Door opens - finally! I take one step into pitch black room to find the light switch and just as I notice a pair of trainers on the floor, a very loud male voice shouts something from - presumably - the bed.

Reception lady goes bright red and replies with foreign words.

Take my stuff back to reception.

<click clack>

The only room left is the suite.

Ah you did just remind me I gave the hotel 1 star.
Arrived at almost 6pm, tells me room isn’t ready for another 45 mins. Good thing I didn’t arrive at the 3pm check in time…

Spooky - we're going there for a few days next week. Will update once we're back.

We're staying in Norrmalm but towards the southern end so we're close enough to Gamla Stan etc. I'm looking forward to eating my own bodyweight in seafood and Kardemummabullar
