Tell Me Why I Don't Want A...

Post by tim »

I reckon I can get another year of el-cheapo motoring out of my Mondeo but to replace it I'm currently leaning towards a 2021 onwards Jaguar XF SportBrake with a ~£25k CASH budget. They seem like good value. I like Jaguars. The 21 on facelift looks lovely inside.

Has anyone tried one?

My friend has the 2.0 litre petrol turbo and it doesn’t feel very Jaguarish. It’s a lovely looking car on the outside, all black.

He drives like an old man so apart from that this is zero use.

Not specific to the XF but I'd avoid the Ingenium 2.0 4-cyl - I keep seeing stories about them and you could write that off as internet gossip but a chap on PH has rebuilt his. Multiple times: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... &t=2013662 - plenty of evidence of not very good engineering.

Had to google it as I wasn't sure Sportbrake was an actual thing, but on looks alone it gets a pass although its hard to mess up an estate car design.
Cheers,

Mike.

I believe they changed the engine lineup with the 21 on models - are they these?

I'm not sure if the 6-cylinders are as bad, but they are part of the same family so I'd want to do my research. The 4-cyl petrol and diesel share a lot but it may be the petrol is better than the diesel.

Ingenium is a landrover brand name for the miltiair systems they bought off someone who bought it off fiat. Basically Chinese whispers (can you call it that anymore?) where the starting point was a bit shit

The petrol Ingenium is generally fine, and while a 4 cylinder turbo is not the most exciting engine I thought the 240 version in our Disco Sport had more character and better power delivery than the VW/Audi equivalent.
You'd have to be mad to consider the 4 cylinder diesel.

Only the high powered petrol 2.0 used a version of multiair.

However, Ingenium engines are not great, petrol much better than diesel, but I wouldn't buy a car powered by either, and I've seen a lot more than most of them.

V6 or nowt.
