I drove through a flood today - i watched a load of cars go through first before committing and stayed in the centre of the road (because there was someone's front bumper poking out of the water off to the side of the road...)

Were you in one of your BMWs, Rich? They always used to have quite low air intakes so following someone wouldn't necessarily be a good idea.

yeah, it wasn't particularly deep in the centre though, otherwise I'd have turned back.

Mattys Alfa 147gta story has stuck with me...

Exactly this happened to an old boss of mine, being responsible for the family converting from 530d to Range Rover...

I am never sure of the argument of gun it through as fast as possible to reduce contact with water vs go slow to stop the water pulling chunks off your car.

After watching loads of videos on TikTok the correct approach is to go slow and gradually build speed until you have a nice bow wave in front of the car.

If it's deep enough to be considering how you'd create a bow wave, I'm not driving my M2 though it!

I'm going to post my 'fording next to a dogging spot' video again. This felt bloody deep driving through and didn't even reach the headlights. Don't do it people.

Earth was at Perihelion today. Fine if you're in Cornwall I guess.

More recent models tend to have them fairly high up, just above the top of the radiator, but they are right at the front so fail to create a bow wave and they’ll suck any water up that splashes against the rad.

I’ve been deep in my petrol v8 Landrover when I used to off-road regularly about 20 years ago (up to the seat cushions inside) but had the intakes right at the back of the engine bay, and had no interior to worry about.

-5° feels like -10° here atm, the chilliest it's been for a while. A nice clean coldness, with a star-filled sky. Lovely.

*Lovely to look at through the window, good luck to those having to share roads with "the council should have gritted it" ilk.

They kept going on about there being a snowpocalypse on Wednesday - nothing happened aside from it being very cold. Then at night when it was -3 it started raining 🙄
A week ago it was snowing when it was +4. Make it make sense 😂

Im out on the bike tonight - it's gonna be a chilly one!

I'd rather have it cold then wet for night rides though.
