Exploding Pagers
Anyone else blown away (so to speak) at the brilliance of this ?
ICYMI - yesterday thousands of pagers carried by Hezbollah members in Lebanon all exploded simultaneously. A small number of fatalities but lots and lots of serious injuries as these obviously tend to be hand held or in a pocket or on a belt.
No clear technical details yet but fingers pointed (obviously) at Israel somehow interdicting the Hezbollah supply chain to plant thousands of modified devices in the organisation.
And not just the personnel damage, but mobile phone activity and medical records immediately afterwards will be a massive intelligence trove of who is connected to who. Quite a stunning operation.

Re: Exploding Pagers
It's like some from '24' right? Imagine lots of terrorists looking at their pagers as they all go 'beep beep' simultaneously, then 'shit' and BOOM, no more terrorist.

Re: Exploding Pagers
I hope they put a suitable message on them just before they exploded, like “you don’t mess with the Zohan!” Or something
Cheers,

Re: Exploding Pagers
Saw a meme with 72 virgins displayed on the pager
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Exploding Pagers
The pagers didn't have explosive devices in them, so how on earth could they be caused to explode?
Re: Exploding Pagers
There are claims that they were intercepted in the supply chain and explosives added.Jobbo wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 10:48 am The pagers didn't have explosive devices in them, so how on earth could they be caused to explode?

and when triggered, they didn't explode - they just armed. They then vibrated continually until a user pressed a button to ensure they went off in someone's hand.
Mossad have quite a chequered history of this type of James Bondism but I'll be honest, this one doesn't sit right with me at all. Clever for sure but very much on the terrorist, rather than "National Army" side of the stage

Re: Exploding Pagers
I don’t know what to think about it either. I mean when your enemy hides behind women, children, civilians etc how can you fight a war against them otherwise.
It’s like when the Taliban were holding up in hospitals and then baiting soldiers to attack. There are rules to be followed but you have to fight back at some point.
Whatever your feelings on the matter, it’s incredibly clever and seems to have been well executed. Maybe Hollywood know more than we know

Re: Exploding Pagers
Seems like a well targeted attack, and a brilliant way to reduce collateral damage. A small enough amount of explosive to only do damage to the target, in a device that is more of less guaranteed to be only in be the possession of that specific target.
What other choices are there when the enemy hides amongst the public.

Re: Exploding Pagers
Its absolutely something that if you'd seen it in a tv or movie you'd have said "that could never be done".
It does make you wonder about the security of all these massive supply chains from a privacy and terrorism/war point of view.

I saw images of a desk or table where one had gone off - it wasn't in the user's hand.dinny_g wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 11:07 am and when triggered, they didn't explode - they just armed. They then vibrated continually until a user pressed a button to ensure they went off in someone's hand.

Re: Exploding Pagers
i expect there’ll continue to be a fair amount of speculations and unknowns with this. it’s not like those responsible for making and distributing them are ever going to make a youtube series on exactly how they went about it…
the video i saw, it just went off in the guys pocket. no interaction - just a timed/triggered explosion.

The sky news link above appears to show an explosion in a guy’s man-bag too.Jobbo wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 12:03 pmI saw images of a desk or table where one had gone off - it wasn't in the user's hand.dinny_g wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 11:07 am and when triggered, they didn't explode - they just armed. Just the man bag warranted it I believe.

Re: Exploding Pagers
I'm interested in how they all went off. Reportedly about an hour span of them all going boom. Pagers don't have great range do they, maybe a mile at most in an urban area. I wonder if there was a drone circling up above sending a signal down to each one to explode.
How about not having a sig at all?

Looks that way - Info I posted was from an early report but more details are emerging...Jobbo wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 12:03 pmI saw images of a desk or table where one had gone off - it wasn't in the user's hand.dinny_g wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 11:07 am and when triggered, they didn't explode - they just armed.
