Electric handbrakes

I think the electric handbrake was widely hated when introduced yet nobody seems to complain about them now. The F30 3-series and F20 1-series always struck me as seeming older in design than their actual age because they didn't have electric handbrakes when pretty much all their competitors did. I quite like them.
Anyway, if only a Kia Picanto had one, this wouldn't happen:
So for elderly people who forget, the automatic handbrake is a wonderful thing.

Why don't people leave their car in gear?

The Kia Picanto by not having an electric handbrake may have saved a life. What if the owner, being so confused mixed up the accelerator and brake pedal and killed a toddler.

I doubt it's an automatic so hopefully less chance of that. It has finally gone.

I dont even use the handbrake on the Lotus...Never mind leaving it in gear.
Story on that...I once moved one of the company cars at work to get my van out. Left it parked in gear. Gave the keys back then went out on a job. End of day comes... Car user jumps in...turns the key...Car jumps forwards into the managing directors Saab.

I disagree. The electric handbrake was the trigger of the cascade of issues with the underside of the Jag.
Also, you can't do handbrake turns with an electric handbrake. QEMFD.

Offtopic, but I haven’t been down that street for a long time, looks like they have built something new opposite the old shoe shop and WH Smith’s.

Yes, it's a block of flats - finished it last year I think.
