They announced that after 17 years production there will be no more petrol Fiat or Abarth 500/595s after the end of this year. The missus is not happy as she loves the Abarths and is currently on her 4th... :(

Hmm, is it really the end or will they hang it on a bit with final, definitely final, and final final editions?

To be fair, they’ve certainly got their moneys worth out of the platform. Pretty much unchanged for 17 years (21 years under the panda)

In a typical Italian method of problem solving- They’re putting a petrol engine in the electric 500- only reason current petrol is getting discontinued is the hackability of the car, same reason for the boxter stopping prematurely. Probably won’t be an abarth version, but you never know

They say they're going to retrofit an ice into the ev, but I'd think that was the plan all along and it's just marketing bleurgh.

Yep, doesn’t make sense to have 2 different production lines making 2 different cars which are called the same thing. Feels like after a period of making decent cars Stellantis has gone to shit again.
All the Alfas are shit. All the Maseratis are shit. All the Jeeps are shit. You can’t buy a good Fiat anymore. Killed off the Dodge ICE way too soon. The Ram trucks are the least reliable.

Not just ice cars. The Yorkshireman’s favourite electric car, the e-up! and the Renault Zoe are both victims of this too.

The more complex and exploitable new cars get, the more I'm convinced that something 15 years+ old and a smartphone is the answer
