That’s probably where the decision was made to sell it 😂

But the ad says it is reliable!

That AI-generated description manages to say absolutely nothing of value. Incredible. I’d need to work really hard to write a paragraph that entirely prevaricates, yet AI has made it simple to write meaningless twaddle at the touch of a button.

I've been going through recruitment lately.

I can now spot AI slop a mile away.

Ah, the AI Sherlock Holmes of job applications emerges! Do you discern their algorithmic fingerprints in the font choice, or perhaps by analyzing the perfectly crafted 'team player' anecdotes? Please, enlighten us with your methods—does the AI's cover letter drop subtle hints in binary code, or does it inadvertently reveal its true nature through an overuse of buzzwords? Your talents must be the envy of Silicon Valley!

I find that the AI text sounds like someone who doesn’t have a soul. Or it could be a human who genuinely is soulless, which is a good reason not to employ them too. This is also why it’s harder to spot in academia, as you’re actively encouraged to write in a soulless style

By using THE POWER OF MY MIND obviously, something something TOO EXTREME.

That aside, it's usually when the cover letter effusively, and confidently talks about how much they enjoy working with container systems and ansible, and how they just love the sector of the industry we're in...

...when their job history is a series of office administrator, not systems administrator, positions, with no references to IT other than having basic MS Office skills. That's pretty normal stuff though. ChatGPT just makes it more obvious that they didn't read the job spec, and they didn't write the cover letter.

The more """"fun"""" stuff was applicants - including enough with fairly strong IT-centric background to be rather concerning - who left in the bit about "As an advanced machine learning language model..." in their cover letters and/or screening questions.

Yes, I know AI slop isn't that hard to discern, but when nearly a quarter of all applicants have some kind of failing like that - after the automated systems on the recruitment platfform have already weeded out a lot of applicants automatically - that's rather frustrating.

But as Gav says, the way the AI tat is written is just so....fucking bland. It's pure 'hands off' marketing-puff type language written in an impersonal way, about how great this is, how much they enjoy that, how enthused they are, while not sounding remotely enthused. Real people don't write like that. It's a little trickier with job applications as they tend to be a bit 'formal' in style anyway - it's not as obvious as it is with these car ads that are clearly laughable bollocks.

Oh, and given one of the other red-line job requirements is strong spoken/written english (because the job can involve breaking down very complex concepts to non-technical users)...well, if you can't demonstrate your use of language in your cover letter or screening questions - the perfect opportunity to do so - then why am I going to put you forward, when others have clearly written their own really rather characterful and interesting responses?

Using ChatGPT for job applications - don't do it, kids.

The flipside of this is that the interview candidates I have, I reckon from a technical standpoint I could shuffle the deck, pick a name, and any of them could all do the job and they all seem agreeable from the screening questions, so all that's left to do is just have a sit down and have a chitter-chatter nitter-natter over the old video conferencing apps, and see if we reckon they'll fit in - and see if they can put up with me; interviews cut both ways after all!

I saw an ad on fb yesterday that'd suit this thread. I'll try and find it...

I presume it was generated by ChatGPT, but I mostly just wanted to have a rant

Side of the road broken down is still better than the Hartley caravan park pond.

Any AI ad description, I just skip the whole lot, it’s made itself redundant.
