I feel like we've been through hundreds of kitchen bins over the years. Have tried cheap swing-lid jobs. Have spent decent money on stainless-finish bins with pedals or electronics to open them. All of these invariably broke. If they didn't break they were shit in some other way - like the top of the bin bag having to be on display after you placed it in the base. Or an internal bag hanging system that didn't work, where the bag would fold inside and you'd end up with contents in the bag AND contents outside of the bag. Or a design that encouraged the bag to "stick" inside and be a barsteward to remove. Or they were simply impractically small.

About 5 yrs ago we got a couple of Ikea Gigantix bins for kitchen and utility rooms. Simple design. Practical (decent thickness/quality) plastic construction. A bag hanging system that gives a "clean" exterior look, but actually works reliably. A simple manual lid design that clicks open and closed. And a good 60l capacity.

Bin life was good.

Except the utility bin clip mechanism failed after about 3yrs. Would no longer stay closed. Not ideal, but it's in the utility room, so the bin top became the storage location for the washing basket. Lift basket to allow bin lid to raise. Use bin. Close lid and replace washing basket. Acceptable workaround.

A few weeks ago however - the kitchen one started to fail. Noooooo!

Of course - Ikea no longer make/sell them. Dicks.

However.... some internet sleuthing revealed a company located in France that only bloody well sells replacement clip unit thingies. Cheap as chips, although they took a week to arrive. Seconds to swap them over. And. They. WORK!

Both bins fixed, and two spares stored away.

After many similar years of cheap and mid priced crap breaking after 6 months, I bit the bullet and bought a Brabantia Bo. 3 x 30l bins are perfect for us and so far so good after 18 months or so.

I'm glad I don't have to waste my time with this sort of rubbish anymore. Integrated bins ftmfw

Full Metal Gigantix.

Not a repair job but a bit of house maintenance today. The old dog (14yr old Cockapoo) has had a ear infection which we initially thought was a stroke as he kept falling over and walking in circles. His recovery has meant lots of rubbing his ear in the carpet and it was buzzing

I remembered my wife had a Vax carpet cleaner for the rentals so gave it a whirl. OMG what an easy win and ended up doing a few rooms

No pictures of the mole coloured water coming out as my wife didnt find it funny and feared being judged
