Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh

Yep - RIP
This one's going to be very parochial and I appreciate no-one will have heard of him but bear with me. The term "Voice of a Nation" is often used but it was never more apt than describing Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
Micheál was the sole commentator of Irish Gaelic Games on RTE Radio from 1949 to 2010 and did the majority of big games on TV since the 80's when the great Micheál O'Heir retired. During the 50's and 60's and a lot of the 70's , there might only be 1 TV in any rural Irish village, so radio commentary of the GAA was unbelievably important culturally.
He was loved and respected all over the country and for me, some of my happiest memories are of my father and I sitting in the front seat of his Hilman Hunter at the beach, listening to the match on the radio. And when I moved to the UK and before GAA began to feature on Sky, his commentary on long wave Radio was a connection to home.
93's a great innings - perhaps being teetotal all your life is a good idea.
