SOS buttons
SOS buttons
Like airbags they’re one of those things we like to have but hope to never need. Was just wondering, has anyone ever used one, what happens?
Re: SOS buttons
Ah, I thought they might be capable of sending out gps coordinates if you were too banged up to know where you are.
Re: SOS buttons
Probably does, just never got that far
Also same thing with the Apple Watch, it seems to randomly call 999 a few times per year…

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: SOS buttons
Yeah my Galaxy watch detected a hard fall when I was doing something mildly strenuous and started calling for help.Mito Man wrote: Sun Jun 02, 2024 10:33 am Probably does, just never got that far![]()

Re: SOS buttons
When I worked at Volvo, it sent out the gps to the manufacturer, who could then send it on to emergency services.
There used to be two buttons on them (2002-2006 at least). The first was if you were broken down or needed help finding somewhere (!). We were encouraged to show it to customers on handover.

Mercs are like this. All Europe calls go to a centre in MaastrichtJimexpl wrote: Sun Jun 02, 2024 4:07 pm When I worked at Volvo, it sent out the gps to the manufacturer, who could then send it on to emergency services.
They contact you first to see what’s happening and contact 999 if you don’t respond.
They do the same in the event of an accident
Re: SOS buttons
I think my old SLK had one....but it only worked if you paid the sub. No sub, they left you in the ditch.dinny_g wrote: Sun Jun 02, 2024 10:14 pmMercs are like this. Re: SOS buttons
Weirdly we have a fault on the e-tron for the SOS system. Warning came on as I drove it back from having the front motor replaced. The system still works - I have twice spoken to the nice people at the Audi response centre to explain that I was trying to reset the system - but the automated function (that calls them if you stuff it badly) isn’t working.
I’m roughly 99.999999999999999999999999999999% certain that a sensor wasn’t plugged back in after the motor was replaced….. it’s going back in to get sorted (under extended warranty again thankfully).

Re: SOS buttons
I don't think any of them do that. The BMW ones call a nice lady who asks if you're ok and then does various stuff. She can't help you pick up a 250kg bike down a single track green lane though.

You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.
Re: SOS buttons
And it's annoying when it decides to throw an error cos it's incapable of updating itself, costing you a day off to get the dealer to force the update.tim wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2024 7:52 amI don't think any of them do that. Re: SOS buttons
Try 4 weeks like it what happened with my Kona! 12v battery was constantly discharging and it took them all of that time to diagnose where the drain was coming from before replacing the SOS button.Barry wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:57 amAnd it's annoying when it decides to throw an error cos it's incapable of updating itself, costing you a day off to get the dealer to force the update.tim wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2024 7:52 amI don't think any of them do that. Re: SOS buttons
I'd be livid yeah. I'm getting rid of the BMW, too many foibles, the servicing is a joke, and I just can't trust it.
