I saw yesterday afternoon that they were going into administration. Not much chance anyone would rescue the business, I'd guess.

My stepson worked for CarStore which was part of Evans Halshaw (Pendragon). Pendragon was taken over by a US company and they decided to show down CarStore's operations; I think CarStore came into being as a competitor for Cazoo, Cinch et al. He got a new job straight away for BYD though.

Shame but did they ever post a profit? We sold two cars to them plus one car on behalf of my parents and their prices were much higher than any other buyers offered.

I don't think they ever made it profitable. Delivering cars around the country offering money back guarantees seems like a tricky business model.

The name has been bought to use in an Autotrader competitor though.

I thought that's what they were doing at the end anyhow :?

You were probably thinking of Kelis.

I wonder if part of the problem was being too honest. I looked at a couple of cars on there and the number of ā€œimperfectionsā€ they showed was ridiculous, most of which were really minor stuff that is expected with a second hand car

At least she could bring the boys to the yard, rather than deliver to their front door.

It came across as one of those companies thought up by some big businessman who thought they could revolutionise an industry by investing a load of money in a brand then trying to scale up the numbers and add a load of niceties that the competition couldn't ...

When in actual fact, it's selling used cars, and people have found lots of far more efficient methods to do it and make money already.

A friend bought a car from them, it had dodgy tyres and was losing coolant.

Of course they collected and refunded with no problem, but just transporting the car twice probably wiped out any profit they had in it. You don’t need many like that before the business starts being unsustainable.

Cars didn’t even need to be faulty did they? I’m sure their advertising said you could return it if you didn’t like it, which at the time struck me as a handy way to hire a car for a week or so for free šŸ˜„

That. Argos had a similar 14-day no-quibble return process when I was at uni. I was limited by funds, so could only partake occasionally, but amongst other things, I had (for a fortnight) a drum machine, CD player, camera, keyboard.....

I'm not sure I get it - you pay £20 for a chance to win some old scrap that you then have to pay to get rid of? Who the fuck is going to pay £20 to be in that?

I'm guessing enough people to make it worth them making the effort? But, I don't get it either.
