“Black Edition”

Post by Sundayjumper »

No, it’s not special, it’s not rare, it’s just black. Very common colour. There’s hundreds, maybe thousands of them out there.

I’ve seen this used lots of times but for some reason this one drove me to comment. Maybe because they feel the need to mention it twice.

"very rare Black Edition" :P
My brother had a white A4 Black Edition :D At least it was an actual spec ting, not just a black car.
I've not carried out an exhaustive search, but of all the factory Black Editions is this the least bad man gangsta?

The word Edition is  in itself; now that everything is an M/AMG/R/etc, it has to be an !x! Edition as a differentiator. I guess Sport just wasn't enough any more :(

BMW Motorrad do "Triple Black", which is wot Tim and myself have with our respective motasickles.

It's black with some grey bits, so not even all black.

And it costs extra

That’s Cayenne Turbo has black trim round the windows - isn’t that quite rare?

My S6 is a black edition. Until the 2023 models the black editions came with chrome Audi rings. They finally went for black rings for mine. I quite like them.

My dad was moaning about this yesterday. The top spec Audi A8 is called the black edition, which results in the exterior being blacked out and interior mostly in all black. Different colour interior doesn't help as it only changes the seats and the red/cognac leather options don't work very well so the best option is black with black and a solid slab of black to look at inside which looks terribly dull and cheap. Oddly the basic Sports trim comes with a better choice of interiors and they change the door cards to match. However it looks crap on the outside and misses out on essential features like comfort seats.
How about not having a sig at all?

Your Audi was sold as a”Black Edition” and is a thing - that’s OK. The Cayenne I posted is just a car that is black.

Nah, mine has the black trim, it’s either anodised or coated, not sure, but it’s certainly not an “edition”.

Ja ja for sure.

Reading the ad again I'm surprised it didn't have "private reg worth £xxxx on it's own...cheapest out there so don't waist yours or our time".

Also, that might be the pettiest MOT advisory I’ve ever seen

I wouldn’t be surprised if ALL my cars have this.

Probably a very expensive option  I don't recall there being a 'Black Edition' Cayenne either (or any Porsche to be honest). I think manufacturers realised that they were losing sales to cheap Ali Express black badges and trim pieces so decided to offer their own; BMW black-rimmed kidney grilles from the dealer and ultimately from the factory being possibly the first? Merc calling theirs 'Night Edition' didn't make it any less sad.

I wouldn't specifically have gone for a Black Edition but the basic S6 is very chromed and a Vorsprung is way overpriced so that was the sensible spec.

I think Merc are the only one of the main brands where "Black Series" is a technology and performance moniker rather than a trim level. (their Black Trim options is Night Edition)

that was 320 bucks well spent - the ones with chrome look so much older imo.

Definitely a good value option - I’m not sure if the facelift 957 was hobbled with silver as standard but it looked abysmal.

Mine is a Shadow edition, used to be called High Gloss Shadowline back in the day but it comes with the M Sport brakes so almost a performance and trim thing.
