I wouldn't want "Staff" - Cleaners, Chef's, Gardeners etc come in, do their job and then go.

I want my privacy...

My mum is getting on, would go on a big family + friends holiday whilst she can still travel, probably Tavira in Portugal (her favourite holiday place).
I'd probably drive down in the DBS.

The problem with that approach is that the best locations already have a house built on them, or if they haven't you may not get planning consent.

Also, if you buy an existing house you will accept there are compromises. If you build it yourself and find a compromise when living in it, it'll niggle more because you could have avoided it.

Plus building a house is going to take a while.

Sounds like you should find a property in a location you like, set fire to it and demolish it, then put in planning to build your dream home ;)
How about not having a sig at all?

All fair observations Simon. Mind you, they give out planning permission like confetti round here, I'm sure it's just a case of know which person's palm to grease.

You can get a crappy 360 for £50k. I don't know how much cocaine costs, or how much you need, but £50k-worth is probably enough to get you started ?

Buy a kilo for £50k, take a quarter for yourself to sniff over the next couple of months, cut the rest back to 1kg and then sell at 0.8grams at £50 each and you'll have £60k cash at the end. So yeah, it's easy to become a cokehead with £50k

Nice! Needs an indoor pool and I'd need to see the garage space, but it's got potential.

Crank that exposure! Makes it look like it's in Spain. Could probably knock a bit off the price if you were good with photoshop and could make it all look a bit more realistic i.e. gloomy grey skies

this one sold earlier this year - outdoor pool mind but not so much of a compromise - this is useable for at least 3 or 4...... hours in an Irish summer...

I wouldn't bother with an outdoor swimming pool here, let alone Ireland!

Quite

Mind, I'm not really a fan of these sorts of places. They might look great on Insta, or on screen when they've been rented out for filming purposes, but they have zero appeal to me as a place to live.

Was interesting last night when the wife was watching some crap on Ch5 where some minor celeb has a "sleepover" at big houses. The chap was a self-made multi millionaire and had had some place built - I think in Surrey - and he readily admitted it was crap for the kids because there was naff all to do and it was nowhere near anything.

They're flights of fancy.

I don't much like an indoor pool - the atmosphere gets rather humid and there's a lot of pleasure to be had from being in an outdoor pool on a sunny day. You're definitely not going to use it all year round, but I think I'd quickly resent the amount of space an indoor pool takes up in my house.
