iPhone pocket dialing

Used to happen with my XR, and now happening with my 14, so it must be something I am doing, or a setting I have on.
After use I
always manually lock my phone (by pressing the side button) and place it in my pocket. Occasionally I then pocket dial someone, but only those on my
favourites list (STD clinic, the leader of the local Bridge club, Alcoholics Anonymous etc).
Under "settings > face ID & passcode > allow access when locked" I have "return missed calls" switched to off (it was on upto approx one month ago, and I thought that might be what was happening, but non - it still happens sporadically).
What (dafuq) am I doing?

Don't know, but if you find out do share - my stepdaughter and father both seem to do this regularly.

Have you got anything set on BT which keeps the phone unlocked?
My phone stays unlocked while in the car, as I've set this up while connected to the BT there. You've not got anything similar?

Good idea, but nope. Even in the car the phone locks whilst in the cradle (unless a I am running Waze or Car Scanner)

Although I'm not sure why I'm helping. Never had a call, therefore not in your favourites.

Bump.
I think
this is what is happening to me. The favourite that I regularly pocket dial is indeed positioned roughly where my "hang up" soft button is whilst I am on another call.
I've removed this contact from my favourites temporarily to see if it stops happening - I might just keep it like that, or I might add them back as a favourite, but follow the settings guidance, so my phone doesn't stay on the "call" screen whilst I am on a call.... it instead reverts to the home screen.

I used to have that a lot - I'd try to ring off but the other person had done so already and where the hang up button was would be replaced by someone who I'd dial. Haven't had it for a while; I'm not sure if I just call people less, they hang up slower or if Apple have changed it. It's nothing to do with pocket dialling though. Unless you put your phone in your pocket while still on a call.

Mik uses his dictaphone regularly.

I realised after a while that it's happening immediately after I've been on a call to someone else. Finish call, click side button to lock phone, slip into pocket.... hear ringing tone.... So I am realising whilst the handset is in my pocket, but I think I've actually initiated the call before I put it into my pocket.
