Hoovie's house for sale
Hoovie's house for sale
I assume this is his ex-wife selling up now:

Interesting to see what the rest of it looks like. I also couldn't resist seeing how far it is to the Wizard's premises - looks close on a map because it's in the middle of the USA but it's 32 miles: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Omega+A ... ?entry=ttu

Re: Hoovie's house for sale
Stuff sure is cheap in the midwest!
Straight swap in price for a three bed terrace in South London
Maybe I should move to Kansas
I also like the burnout mark in front of the drive

Re: Hoovie's house for sale
I'm guessing it's on way over the market rate, looking at the graph for how the price should track it jumped $300k in one month
Re: Hoovie's house for sale
Some nice open spaces in that building. 4,687sqft is quite a lot to keep clean though
Strange that they don't include floor plans.

Re: Hoovie's house for sale
Probably get something not far off for similar money in the Midwest of England. It looks nice in isolation but that aerial pic is such a turn off. Even the little new build villages here have more charm than that. Also I can’t quite make out but it seems to be the usual shite American construction style - felt shingles on the roof etc.

Interesting to see they include a "getting around" bit. No surprise to see that there's no public transport or walking options.
@ZedLeg: quite. And with a very boring colour scheme to boot.

McConnell AFB to the south looks interesting, there seems to be a military airplane manufacturing facility as there’s a bunch of massive fuselages - can’t tell what though?

Bland, soulless, superficial, but big and expensive
It's a hard no from me...
Re: Hoovie's house for sale
Also have you seen how they build houses in America ?
It’s like a persimmon home but less insulation.
You could run between all the rooms without using the doors, just dip a shoulder.

Re: Hoovie's house for sale
That's deliberate in the mid west iirc. Cheaper to rebuild a wood framed house after a tornado than to try and build a house strong enough to withstand them in the first place.
An absolute unit
Re: Hoovie's house for sale
That only works to a certain point at which the insurance premium is so much that most can’t afford it. I remember one of the more recent tornado cases in which a not very well off town got wiped out but 80% of people were uninsured.

Also not great for energy efficiency. Visited northern Texas many moons ago, and was surprised to see so many brick built homes. Turns out it was brick "wallpaper" fitted to the outside.

They're all refuellers, you can see the little winglets on the boom coming out of the bum. Probably KC135 and KC46.
Re: Hoovie's house for sale
The interior is very consistent with the sort of renovations you see on Property Brothers, the US tv series presented by the twins, Jonathan and Drew Scott. ETA: apparently it is Canadian, though all of the houses seem to be in the US.DaveE wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 11:18 amThis house represents everything I hate about AmericaJobbo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 10:10 am I assume this is his ex-wife selling up now:

I'd love to see the houses of all the people whinging about how soulless it is...
I'd love to have that much sqft in and out - there's way more soul in having enough space to indulge your hobbies/activities than there'll ever be in a tiny British period house. (And don't get me wrong, I love a Victorian house, but I love a huge garden and garage too...)
